installing a megaflo type system

The current hot water tank is too small for the house - the previous owners appear to have put one in that fitted the cupboard rather than the house.

We are going to be doing work on the house.

Are there any advantages/disadvantages as to where to put a megaflo.

We are getting a utility built downstairs so it could go there. We'll be relocating the oil boiler to there.

Or we could rip out the bathroom and remodel it so it goes essentially where the hot water tank is now but in a bigger cupboard. So presumably less pipe moving. We are going to be redoing the bathroom at some point but it wasn't that high on the list.

Just a thought - we put our in our loft so we had more storage space downstairs. Just remember to put the switch for the immersion heater someone on the first floor.

As long as you have good enough mains water pressure, putting your hot water cylinder downstairs shouldn't provide a problem at all. All pressurised cylinders are provided with a pressure reducing valve, so that you can take an equalised cold water feed to showers and mixer taps. If you are having a utility built and placing your boiler there, then it would be an ideal place to put your hot water cylinder as it should lessen the need for more pipework. If you liked the cupboard as an airing cupboard, you can always place a small radiator in there to keep it warm.

That's helpful from both of you - thank you.

One other small point - hot water will be delivered fastest to the taps nearest the new cylinder. So if you put it in your bathroom the water from the shower/bath will run hot nearly instantaneously, whereas the hot water will take a bit longer to reach the kitchen (unless the kitchen is immediately below).
