Moving to Four Oaks- Sutton Coldfield

Hi everyone,
We live in Coventry and planning to move to Four Oaks in Sutton Coldfield. DD is soon three and we have been researching primary and secondary schools. Although I know that Arthur Terry is quite good in that area, not sure about the primaries and which one to target for the catchment area. I really appreciate any insights in that regard.

Hello,

I’m aware you posted a few days ago but just stumbled across your post. Four Oaks is a lovely area to raise your children. I was raised in Four Oaks and have only positive memories of it. People often joke about the ‘Four Oaks bubble’ as it’s such a safe place to live that you become a little detached from the real world. It can be a rather pretentious place at times as there is a lot of money around the place- the Four Oaks estate and Little Aston Estate as well as some rather expensive roads around too. The primary school situation is fantastic. Many of our schools are outstanding. Because of this, the catchment area for them are small and house prices around the schools have increased greatly. Some of the more popular schools are Four Oaks Primary, coppice Primary (although it has just lost it’s outstanding it’s still a well regarded school in the area). Hill West Primary has recently had an ofsted report which was outstanding (they’re now waiting for a new inspection to achieve this). Little Sutton is outstanding as is Moor Hall school. There are almost too many to choose from. If you’re able to it would be beneficial to have a tour around the school to see which ones fit with your personal ethos on schooling as some will be more formal that others. Hope that helps slightly and enjoy the area! The new Mulberry walk is great in summer.

There's still an 11-plus system in Birmingham so there are several grammar schools, mostly single sex but some co-ed all through (quite a few co-ed in y12-13).
Also comprehensives eg Arthur Terry and independent schools.

Four Oaks is lovely!

If you are in catchment for Arthur Terry then I think you'll be good for primaries. I think pretty much all the primaries in that area are good or outstanding. The catchment for Arthur terry is pretty small though. Try Clarence road if you are looking for houses. It is a long road and there are a range of different types of places some 2 bed flats in small blocks up to some lovely detached and semis. It is generally an expensive area. Hill west, four oaks and mere green are all very close by. You may prefer one over another as styles do vary but all good schools.

Thank you all, this is all very helpful. As you all seem to be very knowledgeable about four oaks, which area you would recommend to move to? Our budget is around £600K? @Jbirds @babyboyHarrison

Walsall Road is nice but very desirable and expensive because of that. You’ll pay a premium for a cul de sac near the Four Oaks estate but again lovely roads around there. Lichfield Road is lovely and many houses are being purchased along there at the moment and being done up which is increasing house prices on that road although the road itself is busy. All the roads I have said are in the Arthur Terry catchment area too and within a catchment for a brilliant primary. Oh and Park View Road is lovely too and would get you into the very desirable Four Oaks Primary. Roads I would avoid - as I personally don’t like them- are Slade Road, Grange Lane and around that general area and BlackBerry Lane.

My knowledge is a bit out of date so not sure what you should expect for £600k

V handy to be near one of the train stations - walking distance if you can as parking is either £ or v busy at Four Oaks and Sutton Coldfield, not sure if there is any at Butler's Lane.

Knighton drive may be good. Walking distance to butlers lane station, good schools. There is also a small Sainsbury's, Tesco, boots close by on Walsall road but it is a nice cul de sac so fairly quiet. The far end there is a little island at the end of the road with a tree and a swing in it that one of the neighbours must have put up.

Maybe this one. Not sure what you need space wise.

Thank you @Jbirds @babyboyHarrison@Palavah .These are very good comments and really helpful. Because of the Corona conditions we had to put this on hold for the time being which is not ideal. But that is what it is.
