Damp proof - can anybody help me?

The entire ground floor of my house needs a damp proof course. Its visibly bad in several areas. I've had a few quotes but I'm really out of my depth and dont know which system is best to use - the injection one or the membrane? I've tried googling but exponents of each system say the other version is a waste of time and money (and vice versa versa). Its a 1920s mid terrace house

You probably want to look more at breathability and ventilation tbh. Just bought a victorian terrace and done a lot of research into this for me.

I think it depends on the source of the damp whether it's rising damp or condensation.

Magenta999 · 04/03/2020 10:32

Its definitely rising damp

I bet it isn't

But please show us some pics of the wet patches, and the walls inside and out.

Do you have concrete floors?

RedRed9 · 04/03/2020 10:54

I thought rising damp was incredibly uncommon?

Have you had your guttering looked at? What is the exterior of your house (brick etc)?

MaccaPacca81 · 04/03/2020 10:58

What's on the outside of the property? Is it rendered?

Has the ground outside been raised above original levels? I.e. driveway laid, paving etc.

Thanks for the examples.

Are those of external (front and back) walls of your terraced house, or walls with next door? If external, are there any drains or downpipes nearby?

Are any of the damp patches near a kitchen or bathroom?

One of the damp patches seems to include an electrical socket. Please stand back and take a wider pic, including the wall above the socket.

Is the floor concrete?

In your second picture I see some pipes very close to the damp patch. The patch does not run all along the wall, but appears to be a mountain shape. This makes me suspect a leaking pipe in the wall, probably near the high point of the mountain.

are the pipes all for radiators?

Does you boiler have a pressure gauge, or is there a small feed-and-expansion tank for the radiators, in the loft?

Do you have a water-meter?
