Thinking of moving to Ormskirk. What is it like?

Hi.

We are thinking of moving to Ormskirk and have seen a few properties around the Grimshaw lane area. The are close enough to the centre so we can walk, but not too close.
Does anyone have any idea what this area is like? I see the schools are graded as good?
All comments appreciated.

Hello, where are you moving from? I'm orig from Shropshire but moved to Liverpool about 15 years ago and have lived in ormskirk for around 10 years. We have two children attending moorgate nursery and St Anne's primary which was outstanding for decades but seriously lost its way a few years ago and is only now classed as a good school. It's a feeder school for St bedes which is a really good secondary otherwise I probably would have looked elsewhere, Aughton and Town Green have some outstanding schools but property there is more expensive. I personally love it here, it definitely feels like home. Enough amenities on our doorstep... A Marks and spencer food Hall (!), lots of rural stuff a short drive away and decent links to Liverpool and Manchester. There has been a spate of teen crime in the local town centre recently addressed on the local comm group on fbook but nothing that I've seen or that has affected me. People are nice too 😊 Hope this helps, if there's any specific qs fire away! Xxx

Hi Mixmag. Thank you for your comments. We live in St Helen's within the area of Windle and have been in our current house for over 23 years. Our children are all grown up now, but grandchildren are starting to arrive, so we are looking for a house that can accommodate all the family and the grandchildren, as we have them stay over a few times a week. Also my parents are getting older, so they may move in. I like the fact that there is so much on the doorstep, we have looked at Aughton, but it seems a little too remote. I also like Birkdale, but this will be too far away from my daughter's.

After living in the same area for such a long time, it is a frightening thought to move, especially to a completely new area.

@Mrsinks Ah I see your point entirely, it is a huge decision to make. I can only go on personal experience and mine has been an entirely positive one, I have made good friends here and have a great support circle. There are lots of things locally for babies and children, two soft play centres have just opened, one with an educational twist (play and homework help with a qualified teacher) and which runs groups specific for babies and toddlers, messy play and the likes. Also there's park pool swimming baths. And of course Martin mere... Only 7 a month for a family ticket and kids love it, great for some walking /fresh air... And windmill farm and farmer teds.
If you haven't already id recommend an overnight stay here to see everything first hand. Do the walk from grimshaw lane into the town centre. Pop over to martin mere. Grab afternoon tea at Booths on the way back. Maybe go out on the evening?
Grimshaw Lane is nice, street parking can be a bit of a pain but apart from that all good.
Hope this helps and good luck deciding x

As you are so close I would just try it, what I mean is spend your leisure time there, do the shopping etc.
I like it but St.Helens is very well served by rail and motorway networks, so just factor it in if this would be an issue? Other than that I can't think of anything you would miss, well possibly Cottoms Hot pot and Bartons red cabbage but not much else.
As mentioned above I would also look at parking as it looks to be a big issue in many towns now

Funf. Thank you for your comments, we have today made an offer, so fingers crossed. Fortunately the property comes with a lot of space for parking. Can't believe you missed off Burchall's pies 🤣🤣
Fortunately it is only a 20 minute drive from the potential new home and our current home, so very easy to stock up on rations when required.
