Kitchen- island vs peninsula

As the title says. Our kitchen is 5.7m by 3.6m. We currently have an island and an L shaped kitchen. Going for a completely new kitchen, a very sleek German handleless effort with a large bank of full height larder cupboards but no wall hung cupboards. The kitchen designer has suggested a peninsula rather than an island. I'm not convinced. I like my island. What do you think?

Did they suggest the peninsula as it'll complete the sleek look, i.e no break?
I guess it's personal choice, but maybe leaning towards an island as that's what you already have? Is there anyway of having both drawn up so you can see what they look like

If you have no wall hung units are you going to be lacking worktop space? A good reason for peninsula over island.

I had the same dilemma my room was 3.6 x. 9 meters so same width, I have an island and I am so please we did, I think with a narrow room you are in danger of blocking it off with the peninsular (unless you want that) but I'm really pleased with my decision.

I have a 3.4m Long Island which is 1400 wide. No lack of working space on my island! However you need one to fit the kitchen. You have to have enough space for a decent island. If you can fit one in, do so. One end of mine has a veg prep sink and the other end is seating. It has loads of storage.

Would you have to keep walking round the peninsular? I had one and it drove me nuts. It acted as a barrier and that wasn’t useful for me.

Think we need a diagram Grin

I really am not a fan of an island though.

Do you mean a peninsula which is at 90 degrees to your main run

Or one which is parallel to your main run (bit like an island but connected to a wall at one end)

I'm not a fan of an island and I have a peninsular. However, I wouldn't have either next time. It just ends up cluttered with crap all the time.

Diagram I promise when I've seen the designs
