Rangemaster - any regrets?

We’ve currently got 2 Neff “slide n hide” ovens (side by side) and a wide induction hob on top. The set up is easy to use and easy to wipe clean.

We’re planning to get a new shaker kitchen shortly and I like the look of a Rangemaster dual fuel oven. My only reservation is that we had a gas hob in our last house and it was a pain to take all the bits off the top every night to clean it!

Will I regret buying a Rangemaster? And swapping from all electric to part gas? Thanks

I love my Rangemaster for how it looks, but not how it cooks, I have the Elan, oven takes ages to get to required temperature and yes it is an utter pain to clean the top, it is a very awkward design, the pan holders (don’t know the correct terminology) are heavy to take off and an absolute pain to put back on,, it’s definitely all show and no go in my opinion but it does look so very lovely I put up with it’s foibles.

BentNeckLady · 29/02/2020 01:50

I hated mine and got rid of it and now have exactly what you have ( 2 hide and slides and an induction) and I have to say it’s a million times better for cooking, cleaning, looking at.

To rangemaster was the worst cooker I’ve ever used. It actually put me off cooking.

PlumsGalore · 29/02/2020 06:27

The door of the long oven of my rangemaster Elamdropped off yesterday! Fortunately I can still use the other oven.

Nine years old this year, two of the gas rings don’t work either and the pan supports are too big for the dish washer.

Other than that, it’s been ok ish, looks the part, I guess.

Goatinthegarden · 29/02/2020 06:32

I really wanted a traditional Rangemaster because it looks beautiful....

But then went for dinner at a friend’s house and we sat in the kitchen whilst she cooked. After watching her spend half her cooking time kneeling on the floor, we went for the Neff Hide ‘n Slide pyro (at standing height).
Happy with my choice.

ProperVexed · 29/02/2020 06:34

I've got a range master ad agree with pp. it looks great but the hob is an absolute pain to keep clean. Ovens have always been dodgy with temperature. When we do up the kitchen ( next on list) I'm having exactly what you are getting rid of! Funny days!

GatherlyGal · 29/02/2020 08:28

Going against the grain here but I LOVE mine. The markings have rubbed off so it's hard to know which knob is which but I hate using anyone else's oven as they just don't get as hot or cook as well.

It is fiddly to clean but that doesn't really bother me.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 29/02/2020 11:11

I love my Rangemaster but I love gas hobs. I think all gas hobs are obviously going to be much harder to clean than electric/induction just depends what you prefer to cook on. Also you can get the Rangemaster with an induction hob.

I just got rid of eye level integrated ovens and am so happy I did. Gets up to temperature quickly and the hob has good control. The reviews on Which are good and think it’s especially good for reliability.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 29/02/2020 11:25

Love ours. We have a classic deluxe with induction hob (No gas in the village). Hob boils water so quickly we've ditched the electric kettle and have a stove top. Oven has a rapid heat function and cakes are cooked really evenly. You can fit huge amounts in the narrow but deep oven, it's amazing.

trickyex · 29/02/2020 11:30

I have a Leisure range cooker which is less good looking but pretty decent but the gas hop is hard to keep clean. i like to cook on gas though so not too bothered.
Falcon ranges seem to have a better reputation if you can stretch budget wise.

Dragongirl10 · 29/02/2020 11:36

Depends how much time you are happy to spend cleaning up each day....l had gas hobs for years but really resented the time spent cleaning every evening.
In recent years I have had a pair of mid height Neff ovens, with 2 warming drawers under, and ceramic hob directly opposite on island.
Fastest most convenient cooking and clearing up...no awkward bending and twisting to check food, can pop plates and food into warming drawers below direct from Hob or oven in 2 seconds.

Depends how you like to cook ...l like it to be quick and easy!

DartmoorDoughnut · 29/02/2020 11:37

I love mine BUT the grill is impossible to get properly clean. It’s the Excel. I dream about having the hide n slide ones tbh 😂

drumandthebass · 29/02/2020 15:05

I have a range master after having two neff ovens with pyrolytic cleaning and an induction hob.I love my range and how chunky it looks. I love the big gas hob with griddle etc, but next time I would have two under counter cookers with a big range style gas hob above. The ovens never look clean so I would definitely have self cleaning ovens next time

Sunshineboo · 29/02/2020 15:35

I love mine - but it has an induction hob which is easy to clean and I think it is marvellous.

Use mainly the long thin oven at the side as only two of us, but the grill and big oven are fab when I use them too.

The people who don't like theirs seem to be the ones with a gas hob. Perhaps something to think about.

MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting · 29/02/2020 15:44

I love mine, havent had any problems with it at all, I have the induction top, I hate how fiddly it is cleaning gas hobs

Copperblack · 29/02/2020 15:47

I’ve just gone to Hide and Slide and induction job from a range master - I much prefer it, easier to clean, reliable, good features. Definitely wouldn’t go back to ramgemaster.

NotMyFIrstTIme · 29/02/2020 15:48

Obviously, I don't know which specific model you're looking at, and I'll apologise in advance if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs - but these are the things I hate about the virtually-new range cooker (a Stoves model) which was in the house we moved into a couple of years ago.

I like gas hobs (had them for 40 years) but this one is a pita to clean because of the heavy, cast-iron supports.

There are 6 hobs & a wok burner and a very heavy (removable) griddle which fits over 2 of the burners. That means, in use, the hob gets very cramped unless you remove the griddle and store it. (And the space under the main oven isn't big enough to store it in, so off to the cupboard it goes).

I think I used the griddle 3 times - it takes too long to heat up.

It's a 100cm wide model with equal width ovens on both sides. They are too bloody small (a) for some of my pans & dishes and (b) if I want to bake a simple sponge cake - I have to cook each pan separately- or use 2 ovens - because the usable rack space is insufficient to place both pans on the same shelf for even cooking. (NB this is a gas oven - a good electric fan oven might be more accommodating)

The oven size is my main bugbear - I have looked everywhere for a replacement 100cm with a 2/3, 1/3 split and can't find one (without spending an absolute fortune on an Everhot which I am not going to do)

Guiltypleasures001 · 29/02/2020 15:51

Love my range master it was here when we bought the house
Halogen hob, with 5 rings and a plate warmer
2 ovens electric and fan
Separate grill and a warming draw, which I thought was a frying pan draw
Till last year Grin

Italianna · 29/02/2020 15:52

Ha! We are just about to do the complete opposite to you! I've loved our Rangemaster Toledo but it's out now ready for the Nef slide n hide at eye level in my new shaker kitchen! I love the small side oven however the top is a pain to keep clean.

Danggorne · 29/02/2020 15:54

I have a 15 year old rangemaster 110 classic and love it. It's dual fuel gas hob electric oven

It's been reliable and the gas hob is easy enough to clean.

I'm happy with mine

BlodwynBludd · 01/03/2020 08:32

I have a range master nexus dual fuel. Never again grill is awful and is a nightmare to clean

Eminybob · 01/03/2020 08:38

I have a duel fuel Belling range and I adore it. The best oven I have ever had. Easy to keep clean too, it’s not fiddly at all to clean the job. Cheaper than a rangemaster too.

Namethecat · 01/03/2020 08:45

We have the Rangemaster 90. The larger oven is gas , the smaller, taller one electric . We've had it 10 years and once our kitchen is redone will be going over to what you currently have (swap ? Wink )
A few years back the gas oven used to take ages to cook something, apparently the temperature regulator thingy went. Replaced it , went again.
It's a pain to check on anything cooking in oven as other ops say, you have to bend double to see into it.
My gas oven has completely died now so only have the tiny electric oven to cook anything in.
And yes the gas hob is a pain to keep clean .

Astrabees · 02/03/2020 13:42

I love mine, and it cooks everything beautifully. The hob and burners do take a while to clean but when I've stayed in houses with induction hobs I find them far worse.

Comefromaway · 02/03/2020 13:56

My mum has one. She also has an old oven in what used to be granny flat. She cooks her Sunday joint in there as the oven is so rubbish.

Onetickettomars · 04/03/2020 19:19

Thanks all. Appreciate the feedback. I’m going to stick with the double Neff ovens and induction hob. The combination works really well. I’ve found the attached photo of the same style kitchen with this set up. Thanks again! You’ve saved me a fortune and a lot of cleaning time 😂
