How to get water out of shower head?

All tips gratefully received.
DF and I are staying at a holiday rental in a couple of weeks.
We have stayed there before.
Just remembered that last time we stayed, I was unable to divert the water from the bath filler to the shower head.
Poor quality photo attached.
No makers name or model to share, sorry.
Any ideas?

How to get water out of shower head?

theres usually something you push or pull to change from one to the other

Wingedharpy · 28/02/2020 22:35

Can't see anything to push or pull.
Only controls seem to be the 2 capstan-type knobs on the wall which both turn.
1 seems to control the water flow to the circular filler thing on the bath.
The other one controls the temperature.
Nothing else visible.

Ok this may sound obvious but why don't you just ask the people or agency you are renting from?

Menaimum · 28/02/2020 23:14

Have you figured it out yet?

On the two knobs on the wall does the (non-temperature) knob go clockwise from centre for bath filler and counterclockwise for shower or vice versa?
Then where lower shower hose comes from wall is there a turning ring or pull out from wall.
British plumbing is such an adventure!

Wingedharpy · 28/02/2020 23:16

@Pipandmum : That will be my plan B if I can't get any ideas here.
I suppose I was just hoping someone may say, we have one of these and you just push this or pull that and it should work.
Plus, I don't want to waste any of my precious holiday waiting for someone to come and look at it.
Bad enough when I have to do that at home.

@Menaimum : Knobs on wall just turn clockwise IIRC.
No rings or pulling mechanism on shower hose.
Minimalism is lovely but if you can't work the bloody thing, it may as well not be there at all.
The rental was one of the few I've stayed at with no paperwork whatsoever for any of the appliances.
Everything else was fairly straightforward, except for this bath/shower combo.

Is there anything that twists or pushes in that round metal thing in the bath (the thing that opens and shuts the plug hole)?

Wingedharpy · 29/02/2020 01:52

No @Gottheteeshirtandlostit.
The round metal thing in the bath is where the water comes in after turning on with the wall knobs.
Free flow bath filler I believe it is called.

Does the bath filler itself turn? I have no idea how these things work, but it would be something I'd try. Is there a manual in the property that explains this?

Forrandomposts · 29/02/2020 08:13

The valve that you turn clockwise to get the water to flow from the bath will either turn counter clockwise for shower head or, once turned to bath head, will turn another 90 degree clockwise for shower head. I assume!

NotMeNoNo · 29/02/2020 10:31

I think just keep turning upper knobs both ways, you may need a firm push to switch the valve from one outlet to the next.

Wingedharpy · 29/02/2020 12:14

Thanks all for the suggestions.
Will try all these again, perhaps with a bit more force this time and if all fails, will call agent.

We had the opposite problem, thought the bath tap didn't work only the mixer shower (the previous builders were a bit bodgy) but one day we found the water coming from the tap instead, turned out there was a ring where the hose screws in that you had to push up or down very firmly.
So the answer is give it a bit of Welly on anything that looks likely.
On the plus side, the previous people might have left it on shower mode this time.
