Has anyone got a whirlpool/jet bathtub? Do you love it or hate it?

We're about to renovate our bathroom and I've been thinking about having a jet/whirlpool bath...

I have a bath probably at least every weekend, so use it often to chill and relax after a hard London week - so use wouldn't be the issue.

But it feels like it would just be a nightmare to clean, especially with all the limescale!

Does anyone have any experiences? Love it or leave it?

Also, an absolute pain in the arse to clean.

We had one. Recently replaced it with a regular tub.
It was very loud. Definitely not a relaxing bath.

Ours was here when we moved in. I’ve probably used it a handful of times in ten years. It’s just noisy and uncomfortable really.

I’m also a slattern and it just didn’t occur to me that something water pours through would need cleaning, until a cap came off. It took about three hours of scrubbing and bleaching and flushing to get it clean. And life is just too short to be doing that regularly.

I’m saving up to get rid of mine.

🤢🤢🤢🤢 3 ft guck foam wall!

It definitely sounds like in theory it's nice and relaxing but the reality is very different.

And I can't be arsed so spend hours cleaning jets and pipes on top of the current housework! Normal tub it is!!

Thanks all you lovely MNters! You've saved me from making a massive error!! 💓

I wouldn’t have one personally! They seem pretty gross!

I have a Hydrotherapy hot tub where I work and I know the lengths you have to go to to keep it clean and sanitised and I don’t think any chemicals are used in a whirlpool/jet bathtub to clean out the pipe work are there?

They sound nasty and I’d rather die then use one in a hotel room too!

Son-in-law wanted to have a go - I said fine, explained how to work it and re-iterated several times not to put any sort of bubbles in Grin

I have to switch it off at the mains if autistic ds goes in. The more bubbles the merrier in his world.

We have one in our rented house.
Dc love it.
I hate it.
It takes a lot of maintenance to prevent black flakes filling the bath.
Dc have created bubble mountains that envelop the whole bathroom.
It is hard to clean the jet areas.

You are right to say no OP.

I have to run diluted bleach and dishwasher cleaner through ours!
I don't want to bath in that.

I’m clearly in the minority, but I live mine. I use it every other day and put the specialist cleaner through it approx once a month, and I don’t have any of the problems described above. The gentle jets aimed at back, shoulders etc are lovely, and holding your toes in a jet is heavenly.

I agree that it can be noisy. It’s better if you fill it to well above the jets.

Aaghhh - love, not live!
