What colour paint for new kitchen (with photos)

Help please!
We’ve recently had an extension which included a new kitchen.
DH wants to paint it dark blue. I think that it doesn’t go with the worktops but I’m terrible at coming up with other suggestions. Any thoughts? (The flooring is currently planned to be dark grey)
The pictures are both of the same colour paint by the way, my friend thought they were different!

I think the blue in the last pic looks a little too blue. Maybe a petrol blue would look good.
Fab kitchen btw.

I’ve said this on other threads because it’s my latest discovery/obsession. But if you get a Farrow and ball colour card and match a paint colour to your units then their website will tell you what compliments and contrasts well with it.

For example, your DH might be right... but there might be a toned down option

I’d go for a light colour as the kitchen looks quite dark

I agree you should try the colour wheel
It’s amazing the difference a slight shade makes

Go in the website and chose

You can buy other brands, just use the tool.

I love green for a kitchen. Something light, like the light greens that were popular in the 1920s. Fresh flowers, bowls of fruit and veg always look so nice against a pale green background.

Witchinghour1 · 24/02/2020 21:29

Farrow and ball down pipe- love it!

Africa2go · 24/02/2020 21:36

Personally I dont think dark units go with a dark worktop. Is your worktop black? If so, then a dark blue kitchen with black worktop and dark grey floor will be too overbearing.

I would go with a paler colour (may be a light grey / french grey / pale blue / stone?)

Paintforkitchen · 24/02/2020 22:02

That’s what I think too, a lighter colour would be much better.

The work top is dark grey.

I’ve suggested these colours to dh from the F&B website if anyone has any thoughts?

Cooking apple green
Green blue
Parma gray
Card room green
Breakfast room green
Oval room blue

He wants dark blue walls, dark grey counters and dark grey floor? Why not just wear and blindfold and be done with it?

Light grey wall, maybe with one dark blue wall to offset them? But you're right, it's too much dark.

Paintforkitchen · 25/02/2020 17:06

Yes I think he’s crazy to think that would look ok!

I've used Breakfast Room Green in a kitchen with similar units, wood worktop not black though. It is a lovely colour.
Green Blue is a fascinating colour but not so kitchen-y, I don't think.
The Parma Grey is delicious - it's actually blue though! - so OH might like it.

Remmy123 · 25/02/2020 17:27

Dark blue won't match the worktop - go into a Farrow and Ball shop and ask their advice - maybe something with a green tone?'

What colour is the floor?

Paintforkitchen · 25/02/2020 18:06

@Remmy123 the floor will be dark grey

Italian ( and other European ) kitchens are often black tops on blank cabinets. Can look stunning . Colour some photos with a dulux app and see what you think .

wehaveafloater · 25/02/2020 21:03

*black not blank

HollowTalk · 25/02/2020 21:05

I have kitchen envy!

ClientQueen · 25/02/2020 21:12

The parma grey is lovely, and so is the oval room blue

windmill26 · 26/02/2020 18:34

Parma Grey or a light shade of grey will work well.I would also suggest considering Little Greene paint as I find is way more durable (so better value) than F&B.

CuteOrangeElephant · 26/02/2020 18:40

Little Greene Mushroom. Lovely colour between grey and taupe.
