Shower screen or curtain?

Currently in the process of refitting the bathroom and can't decide what to do.

I love the look of a shower screen but acknowledge that DP and I are lazy slobs who won't keep it clean.

A shower curtain would be easier, but the thought of cold sticky plastic touching me makes me gag.

Screens look so much better and are arguably easier to clean as it's just a simple wipe down or spray with demolder.

We have a screen, it's a rented house so was here when we moved in. I hate it. Much prefer a curtain

Knittedfairies · 22/02/2020 13:27

Definitely a shower screen; much easier to clean than a shower curtain; they have to be cleaned too, OP...

Pinkywoo · 22/02/2020 13:31

Screens are definitely not easier to clean, curtains just go in the washing machine! Depends if you're in a hard water area though, ours is very hard so I hate having a screen, but it's a rented house so not much I can do about it.

Shower screen! As for cleaning.... I have a specific towel that I use to wipe around the whole shower + screen as I live in a hard water area & drying the shower area is the easiest way to keep it clean.

Those squeegee things are ace, before you get out, a 30 second wipe off and you're done with no water marks. Easy Smile

screen unless you want the curtain cling (due to physics). And if you do feel like cleaning it occasionally, they stand up to a lot of neglect. Perhaps I should do mine.

BTW rentals should have screens to reduce the amount of water sprayed around. Plus see above.

Screen!

Squeegee after each shower and then use the method shower spray one a week to clean. Easy!

happymummy12345 · 22/02/2020 17:25

Forgot to say I hate our screen because it's not very big.
I'd love a curtain that goes full length of the bath. Also we didn't have a plastic one, I'd hate that, we had a material one.

cushioncovers · 23/02/2020 08:13

Curtain. No daily cleaning. I just pop it in the washing machine every couple of months and then get a new cheap one twice a year. Although I now realise as I type this that it probably isn't the most environmental friendly option. So maybe a screen would be better? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not really helpful

wowfudge · 23/02/2020 08:30

We have polyester shower curtains and they don't cling to you. We are planning a separate shower though instead of one over the bath.

AnnPerkins · 23/02/2020 14:35

Curtain. Every time.

I despise screens and cubicles. It’s not really the screen itself, it’s the fittings and surround that are so difficult to clean. Any little gaps fill up with water and dust and you can’t get a cloth in there to get all the gunk out 🤢

Moreisnnogedag · 23/02/2020 14:41

Curtain. I took off the screen as it just looked horrible, didn’t stop most of the spray ending up on the floor and I seriously worried about it shattering. The curtain can cover the whole of the bath, gets bunged in the wash and never sticks to me.

CuriousCapricorn · 23/02/2020 14:57

Curtain here too, I wash it on a quick wash once a month and it’s great. Mine is currently in the wash today and I have a spare if I fancy a change.

SwedishEdith · 23/02/2020 16:55

I ditched our screen for a curtain. Hated the screen and the horrible black mould that gets into all the rubber seals and hinges. Like others, can wash curtain or take it down and spray with mould remover spray if gets a bit orangey (from soap) at the bottom. You get weighted ones now so they don't cling anymore.

Roaren · 23/02/2020 21:49

It would depend on the context.

I'm hoping to change our screen for a curtain: our bathroom is cold, the shower is over the bath and we just have a half screen thing. It stops the shower spray going out on to the floor but it doesn't do anything to make having a shower feel warm or contained. I want to get a curtain that encloses the whole bath.

In our old bathroom, the layout was different so the shower didn't feel so exposed and I liked the look of the screen.

Wingedharpy · 24/02/2020 01:57

@Roaren speaks much sense😊

For over bath shower, a heavy weighted curtain works well.
Rinse with shower head after use and leave it drawn across the length of the bath after you've disembarked so it can dry fully and not go manky at the bottom.

For glass screens/enclosures, clean and dry after EVERY use to keep it looking pristine and gorgeous.
The easiest way, by far, is to take the cleaning stuff into the shower with you.
Shower as usual, then clean and dry shower while in the nude👍

Failing this, a good squirt of Showershine will help keep it looking good but, you'll use gallons of the stuff for a large glass screen.
