Rolls Royce of dishwashers?

Gary1977 · 19/02/2020 09:25

Please advise what is the Rolls Royce of dishwashers. I don’t mind spending a little extra. I want a dishwasher where

  • The holes in the spray arms don’t get constantly blocked with food.
  • I don’t have to wash the dishes by hand before putting them in the dishwasher (what’s the point in having a dishwasher in that case).
  • Dishes and glasses come out sparkly clean years after I have bought the product.

Please nobody recommend Kenwood or Neff.

Additionally, I don’t want to order from Know How or have anything to do with them going forward. I don’t want them making eight visits to install the appliance - and later I don’t want them making ten more visits to fix it before declaring they can’t fix it because it would cost them too much. If it isn’t too much to ask, I want someone to install the appliance in one visit in my integrated kitchen and then I want a care plan which covers everything forever going forward.

Thanks.

Miele appliances are the best. Look at the range and see what suits.

What's the issue with Neff?

I got a Neff Fully Int from John Lewis , it has the much coveted by me cutlery tray Smile

Before this I had a Bosch (again John Lewis) they fitted it and because I had the extended cover , when it was beyond repair I got a refund .

Miele - I have a Washing Machine . The belt snapped after less than a year ( I have never had this is a WM before) I am underwhelmed by it TBH.

Bosch ? but more recent models are a bit tinny .

I have a Miele. 8 years old and Fantastic.

Prior to that I had a Bosch. No complaints but wanted an integrated one with the new kitchen.

In my holiday home I have an Ikea. It drives me to distraction. It cleans well enough but everything falls over and I have lost count of the number of glasses and glass dishes that have been broken.

Our 18 month old Neff dishwasher broke terminally a few months ago. We got an independent appliance specialist round to replace it (when it became apparent fixing it wasn’t a viable option). We chatted for longer than you could think was humanly possible to discuss dishwashers. The basic conclusions we came to were: Neff (and many others of their ilk) which used to be considered well-built are now very poor. Avoid at all costs. Miele are good machines but avoid the entry level models as corners have been cut to compete with cheaper brands. Therefore you’re looking at £1k plus spend which is quite a hefty amount plus if it does go wrong you have to get Miele out to fix it which is more £££. We ended up with a Slovenian built Gorenge (not a brand I had previously heard of and might have spelt wrongly!) The advantages being that it’s a solid build machine which comes with a decent warranty and is cheap to fix should anything go wrong. We’ve had it 6 months now and I find it very good.

We spent a lot of money recently on a Samsung dishwasher. It's very shiny and flashy and utterly rubbish, and it's broken down again tonight, this is about the fifth time. I could happily drop kick it into the very high river running past the bottom of our road right now so I'm watching this thread with interest.

Geoffreythecat · 19/02/2020 22:09

Our Miele must be about 15 years old now. The only attention it's ever needed is to unblock the tube which vents the hot air (which I've done myself with an online tutorial). That's pretty good going really.

Happierthanevernow · 19/02/2020 22:12

I have a Miele, you can't beat German engineering (I have an Audi too).
It's really really reliable & good all round.
The only problem I've ever had with it is when I, erm, managed to get some gravel (long story) in the filter. They came out and fixed it for free even though it was just out of warranty.
I have it on at least twice a day usually. I clean the filter from time to time but have never had food stuck in the rotating arms.

Yes it was more expensive but by golly worth the extra.it also looks great and hasn't dated.

QuillBill · 19/02/2020 22:15

We’ve got a Meile too as we have an open plan kitchen so we wanted a really quiet dishwasher.

BuddhaAtSea · 19/02/2020 22:19

Miele here too :)

SnugStars · 19/02/2020 22:21

My Bosch has been great, it’s 5 years old and I’ve never had a problem with it.

potbellend · 19/02/2020 22:22

Miele, 4yrs pls, probably used twice daily. It's fab

Spanglybangles · 19/02/2020 22:44

Our last one was a stand alone Kenwood which was amazing and cost £250. Never broke down. We had it 9 years and left it in a previous house, still in perfect working order, when we moved to a house with an integrated machine.

Have moved again to a house with no dishwasher Shock Looking to renew the kitchen this year so will be looking for a dishwasher. Tempted by Miele but conflicted due to the cost.

Gary1977 · 20/02/2020 00:33

We appear to have a consensus so that Miele is the Duck L’Orange of dishwashers.

Time to splash the cash.

Following...
Not sure if I should get an Ikea dishwasher or the Miele model that fits into the IKEA kitchen.
Ikea gives me 5 years warranty, Miele only 2 and from the shop where I've seen the machine there is no option to buy an upgrade to 5 years.

happystory · 20/02/2020 07:21

Have lived in this house for 30 years. Inherited the existing Neff, bit old but it chugged on for a few years. Since then have only had two other dishwashers, both Bosch, both very reliable and good results each time.

prampushingdownthehighst · 20/02/2020 07:45

Another happy Miele owner here, bought it in 2008 and not had one problem.....probably jinx it now though!

ajandjjmum · 20/02/2020 07:48

On our 2nd Miele - the first one lasted forever!

We chose it because DH hates the baskets where cutlery basket stands upwards (he read about someone falling on one!), whereas in the Miele the separate cutlery try lies items flat.

Would always recommend.

PlumsGalore · 20/02/2020 07:49

By two Bosche have been great too, never had the arms blocked with food and everything comes out clean and shiny.

isthismylifenow · 20/02/2020 07:57

i have a Miele now. I wish I had just bought it right at the start of my dishwasher journey, as tbh every other one I have had gave me issues.

Started out with a Diplomat.
Kenwood (the worst of the lot)
LG
Another LG which replaced the previous crap LG

Miele has outlasted all of these brands so far.

The thing I like the most is that you can put the dishes in with crud all over them and it doesnt block up like the rest. During Kenwood days I stopped buying sweetcorn as I thought it would be the end of me. Ditto with Weetabix.

We eat those again now Grin

Ethelswith · 20/02/2020 07:58

I've got a Miele, which was an incredibly generous moving in present from ILs. Sill going strong, over 2 decades later.

My DMum has has two very reliable Bosch over the last 30+ years (one left in house she moved in to, and the one she replaced it with when the first one died)

MarieG10 · 20/02/2020 08:32

Got a Smeg which was in offer with 5 year warranty. Still going strong and didn't need the warranty

Notwiththeseknees · 20/02/2020 13:30

Previous house I inherited an old Miele and left it there, still happily integrated & working perfectly 10 years later. I estimate the dw was at least 20 years old.
Bought a Siemens for my new home - got rid of it after 2 years - couldn't bare one more crap wash. So I bought a s/h Miele semi- integrated, stainless steel & an utter bargain. Ten years later, still going strong & silent but a mere baby at about 15 years old Grin

Redlocks28 · 20/02/2020 13:34

Put last two have been Smeg and they have been good.

I also cover a dishwasher cutlery tray though!

MaisyMary77 · 20/02/2020 13:44

I’ve had my Miele dishwasher for 2 weeks now. It replaced a much older machine which survived 15 years and about a dozen house moves.

My new one has the autodos system-really good but not practical with a large family. The disks cost £10 each and need replacing every 20 cycles. I run it about twice a day. Fortunately it still has the option of using tablets. So I’ll use up the 7 free disks I got then probably won’t use them again.

It has developed a very small leak from the door. Not impressed but I have a Miele Man coming round tomorrow to fix it.
