Selling my house - Could I ask for your opinions?

Hi, we are looking to sell our home of 15 years and just looking for some input or suggestions of how to get it to appeal to potential buyers. I think the drive and back garden don’t look great (we had just had snow when the photos were taken) Are there any other changes you would make? Thanks www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-68320908.html

Nice house. In your position, I would consider getting some potted shrubs for the front garden. You can then take them with you. The grass on your back garden is a bit dodgy. Looks like it needs a mow, and possibly a roller on it? Also maybe throw some grass seed down when the weather gets a bit better.

Yes, the drive and garden could do with tidying and maybe some plants. Would personally also take the desk and chair out of the dining room for photos.

bombaychef · 17/02/2020 22:34

The house is lovely but kerb appeal counts so Id get some pots and plants to make it look homely front and back myself

imabusybee · 17/02/2020 22:35

I was preparing for a lot of comments but honestly the one thing I'd suggest inside is move the desk from the dining room, but outside does need a lot of work. Spend some time and money getting some plants and flowers for the front (curb appeal) and sort the back garden as it really lets the house down. Also retake the photo of the back garden from an angle where you can't see those houses on the hill (draws the eye away from the actual garden)

FizzyPink · 17/02/2020 22:36

Wow I cannot believe the price! Where we’re looking in South London currently you’d be paying about £450k for something not nearly as nice. I think it’s lovely!

Killerqueen2244 · 17/02/2020 22:37

I echo the suggestions of pots out the front. I think it’s a lovely house and the only adjustment I’d make is take out the coffee table and small table next to the tv in the sitting room so it looks less cramped in there. Good luck!

BabbleBee · 17/02/2020 22:39

I agree. Make the outside look brighter and neater.

Move the office desk out of the dining room, it looks small and cramped.

I’d also rejig the lounge furniture or maybe change the photo to show the space off better.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 17/02/2020 22:39

Nice house. I agree with the advice above but I’d also take the big desk out of the dinning room and make it look more like a welcoming family dinning area.

BettaSplenden · 17/02/2020 22:45

The outside definitely needs prettying. The house is gorgeous but I think it's overpriced. I think 125/130 is probably the ceiling.

lobsterkiller · 17/02/2020 22:47

Your house us lovely! As others fave said it could do with some help outside. Definitely some potted plants. Good luck with selling.

nicenewdusters · 17/02/2020 23:01

The large desk and chair in the dining room make the table and chairs look very small. I agree with pp to remove them whilst you're selling.

Could you paint the fences in the front garden/drive? The total lack of colour by way of plants, pots etc is very draining. Great to have a big drive, but definitely needs separating from the house. I'd go for some really large pots or planters with quite dramatic plants. It's such a big space that just a couple of pots either side of the front door would look lost.

Also agree about the back garden. Could you relay/repoint the paving stone path? It looks a bit wobbly. How about some tall plants in pots, like eucalyptus or red robin, to place in front of the back fence to break up the view a bit.

Overall it's a lovely house, very tastefully decorated and looks spacious and welcoming. I think the fact it's so nice inside is what makes the look of the garden/drive more of a disappointment.

Sellingmyhouse · 17/02/2020 23:29

Thank you, good points about the dining room. We repointed the patio at the weekend so that looks better now. I like the idea of planters at the front. It looks so bland in the photos; I suppose because we always have at least one car on it I don’t often see it like that.

I have nothing constructive to add, except I love the colour of your front door, and you have great taste in wallpaper.

ChicCroissant · 17/02/2020 23:57

Agree with the suggestions of some flowers in pots for the front and the back patio, and maybe patching the lawn with a small amount of turf. Looks lovely, good luck with the sale OP.

AmelieTaylor · 18/02/2020 00:11

It’s all about the photos! People won’t bother reading the write up if the photos don’t show what the want to see

Get new photos of the improved exterior

As most people have said

Remove the desk & put a proper dining table & chairs in

Then...

Could the second bedroom take a double bed?

You need a photo of the downstairs cloakroom

Proper photo of the utility

Clean the muck off the driveway (oil I assume?)

No idea about the price - Around here you can’t buy a garage for that price.

Good luck!

bananaskinsnomnom · 18/02/2020 00:16

I would have bought that house in a heartbeat! Particularly as it has a great kitchen and bathroom.

Just a shame that where I am that same house would easily have been £380 000 at least (in the dodgy area) shuffles off too consider moving

Remove whatever is hanging next to the front door. It looks like one of those fake topiary balls. It's completely the wrong scale and unbalanced.

Hanging basket either side of the door maybe with bright plants?.

longtompot · 18/02/2020 16:46

Lovely looking house. I would echo the suggestions of moving the desk for photos to make the dining room look less like a hallway. If you can, two trees, one either side of the door, in pots so you can take them with you, with maybe some smaller pots with seasonal bulbs in.
The price looks amazing from my perspective. Could just about get a small flat here for that!
