Replacing projection tap in bathroom

Hi

We have one of those projection taps in our bathroom that is embedded in the wall so you can see no pipes.

We'd like to change the tap. Does anyone know if this is an easy job ie it will just require replacing the parts you can see (the tap and the handle) or whether the entire fitting will need to be replaced meaning going into the wall, retiling, etc?

Thanks

post a photo please. Pay special attention to the joint or socket on the pipes that (might) come through the wall for the tap to attach to with big nuts.

How far apart are the pipes (centre to centre)?

Is the tap on the far side of the bath so you can't get at it without taking the bath out?

I hope you will not do this again.

Thanks for your response. The tap is above a wash basin not on the bath. Not sure what pipes you mean?

I was thinking the taps connected to pipes coming out of the wall. Sometimes there is a standard adaptor that the taps screw onto. In these cases it is fairly easy. Something like this (this is a shower one, some can be tiled over, with the connections projecting).

There are various versions

I was hoping a photo of your tap would help identify it, and how it is connected.

The problem is the sink is only 200mm. The first one is 150mm which we thought would be ok but is too long and splashes over the sink when washing hands. The second one is 100mm

looking at the technical drawings (see pics), I doubt it will come out unless you open the wall.

Some fittings (e.g. Aqualisa Round Knob) are made so you can work on them by removing the decorative trim and the knob, but I don't think yours has a big enough gap.

If it's a studwork wall you might open it from the other side. Replacing the hatch and redecorating might be easier than retiling.

I have a feeling you will avoid such whimsical stylish taps next time.

Thanks and sorry to see I have irritated a complete stranger with my decorative choices

Sorry. Not irritated but poking fun at a stylish bit of plumbing that is impractical. Not uncommon.
