Has anyone given their bedroom to DC and had a permanent sofa bed downstairs instead?

I have a very small 3 bed house, one double room and two tiny box rooms. 2 DC are growing and need room/desks for homework and friends round. I’m considering giving my double to one DC and the other having bed and wardrobe in one tiny room and homework/den room in the second smaller room.

I’m a single parent so would be fine on a sofa bed in the living room - but most I have looked at say for occasional use only and aren’t that comfy!

Anyone have any ideas how to make it work? I’d love a loft conversion but short of a lottery win this won’t happen!

I had the box room when growing up and managed adequately.

Home work was done at the kitchen table or in the living room.

The logistics of someone sleeping in the living room is not practical. When others want to go down for something in the night or wake up earlier than you, then your being woke up.

I do agree re the desks, they are not essential, one of my DSs uses his, the other never does.
Still think its important you keep the largest room, you can use it to store any things the kids cant fit in their box rooms.
I also grew up in the box room, no desk but shelves and drawers and astandard height bed i felt comfortable and was careful about keeping it tidy.
