If you’ve got a small room with just a toilet and hand was basin

Please could I trouble you to give me the room measurements?

We’re thinking about knocking 2 cupboards together to give us a second toilet but we’re bothered that the newly created room won’t be big enough

Also concerned about loss of storage but that’s a different problem...

Ours is slightly bigger than the width of the door, and about 1.5 metres length? We used a compact toilet in there, and a small sink, both are back to the wall with the fittings concealed.

Works OK for us.

6foot long and 3.5 foot wide.

We have a half basin, a toilet and radiator. Its ample for an extra toilet:)

TheGoatIsHere · 12/02/2020 13:36

Our downstairs loo is 1.7m X 0.8m and is plenty big enough

Appletreehouse · 12/02/2020 13:38

Our toilet is 76cm wide and (until we knocked it into another room) was 1.2M long. It was a little squashed but with a small corner basin and short projection toilet (the pans come in different lengths) it was adequate.

We did also look at those all in one basin above the cistern toilets, but they were expensive and we struggled to find one that the soil pipe could drain out the side from, as most were direct out the back.

You can get cisterns with handbasin on top. It would cost a bit more than 2 separate items but if space is tight it is a good idea.

Thank you so much folks 😊

Sink on top? Wow, just looked that up, didn’t know they existed, that might well be an option

Thanks again, very helpful

You can look at the guidance. The smallest to go is 800mm wide. With a turning circle of 400mm diameter to get in and out of the room.
So smallest I would go is 800mm wide x 1500mm long.

Get a toilet with a sink in-built above the cistern

TeapotCollection · 12/02/2020 14:11

That sounds sensible, thank you. I’ll have a proper accurate measure up

I’m trying to build my case, my husband doesn’t want it done because it’s not our forever house and whilst I do see his point, my argument will be that we’ll be there for at least 7 years so a second (downstairs) toilet would be massively useful for us and, more importantly, I’ve done my research on the local housing market and in our price bracket there are more houses without a second toilet then with so I genuinely think it will help to sell it when the time comes

following - we have a very small toilet-in-a-cupboard style setup (two actually, one above the other) and need to work out how to get a basin into each. One thing I'm thinking about (for downstairs) is to turn the door outwards to give more space inside.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 12/02/2020 14:43

our house has an "outside" toilet, that is now inside as someone built a porch on, and made what was the outside back door an inside "out to the porch" door.

It was quite deep but narrow so we have a back to the wall toilet with a fake wall and slightly longer pipes to fit the cistern and put a worktop over the top (concealed cistern) and the sink sits on that
Toilet is slighlty off set from centre so you have room to shimmy in toward the basin

I have a bit of a thing about teeeeennny tinnnyyy stupid ridiculous useless cloakroom sinks so this works much better imo!

TeapotCollection · 12/02/2020 14:43

Have you looked at the toilets that have a sink on top? They’re great, I didn’t know such a thing existed 😃

Crossed posts there. Would a corner toilet work better for you?

I stayed at the Bloc hotel in Gatwick & the bathroom was very cool & tiny. It had a toilet with a sink on top & the whole thing was a wet room with a shower in the ceiling.

Ours is 5ft 10 x 2ft 9
