Ovens that are microwaves too

We're planning our replacement kitchen and Wickes have recommended an oven that doubles as a microwave rather than having a second oven and a separate microwave. I'd never heard of these before - can anyone tell me if they're any good please?

Also to mention our Neff one has a door that opens out rather than a sliding door. Which makes it even more difficult to reach

I think it depends on how tall you are. I'm 5'7" and don't have issues with the upper oven (which is the combi-microwave) but my sister who is 5'2" struggles a bit.

The bottom of the oven door is 125cm off the floor.

We have a wall-mounted combi oven, and placed it so the top of the oven is just above my height, but we can easily see and reach into the oven to put stuff in and out.

DP can't reach the cabinet above it.

The mounting position has resulted in the bottom of the cabinet being nearer to the worktop than other wall cabinets. If it was in a tower this would not show. The wall cabinet is also deeper than other cabinets, it is a model sold as a "boiler cabinet"

A combi microwave - I’ve had one for many years and wouldn’t be without it - it’s a grill as well. With both microwave and oven on, it’ll do 2 big jacket potatoes with crispy skin in 14-15 minutes.

A dd also has one in her newish kitchen. Definitely saves worktop space.

Spanglybangles · 12/02/2020 18:20

Peachi82 you can get them same size as a full oven, saw one in the current B&Q kitchen magazine. I have enclosed a photo of the page. Thinks it’s an own brand

Mine is mounted above my single oven. It’s easy to reach. It’s just like a double oven set up. I have pan drawers underneath and a cupboard I use for cereals above! No idea why. Works for us though.

Peachi82 · 12/02/2020 18:39

Oh, thank you! I'll have a look into this!

It's a very popular combination to have a Single (Fan-Assisted) 60cm Oven with a second 45cm Combination Microwave Oven above it.

The Combi functions as a smaller oven (non-fan assisted, so adjust cooking times accordingly) as well as a microwave.

It's a very space-efficient way of combining the best features of both a double oven and a microwave without sacrificing worktop space to freestanding appliances.

Could anyone advise me on how good these ovens work as a grill? Especially those with the Neff set up @BIWI, @takeyourrubbishhome @SedentaryCat @TheDogsMother
@Celeriacacaca have you had your kitchen done yet or is it all on hold now?

SedentaryCat · 26/04/2020 12:28

@nanato Kitchen was completed before Christmas (thankfully!). We find the combi oven works really well as a grill - smaller area to heat, so it gets up to temperature quickly.

The microwave function works well. The conventional oven mode is a bit slow IMO and so the temperature has to be bumped up a bit.

TheDogsMother · 26/04/2020 12:32

Yes the Neff combi oven has large and small grill setting with adjustable temperature. Works with door open or closed. Works well

Celeriacacaca · 26/04/2020 13:00

@nanato Kitchen on hold for the moment which has been a good thing as we've rethought some areas. Interesting to read further comments in here re ovens.

BIWI · 26/04/2020 14:04

@nanato

I don't use the grill much, but when I have done, both grills have worked fine. There are two settings, one for a large grill area and one for a small grill area, so flexible depending on what you're wanting to cook.

homeschoolchaos · 26/04/2020 19:40

We have the Neff ovens. Both the large and small have grills, and grill settings. I don’t really grill much though so not really sure how they work. I’d expect them to be good though, Neff generally are!

choirmumoftwo · 26/04/2020 23:11

I love mine and am so glad we incorporated one into our kitchen design.
Rarely use the grill function though - you have to use a special rack and it's too fiddly for me.
