Next house location - Rugby, Northampton or somewhere else?

Hi All,

Just started looking for our next house and hoping you can give some advice!

A bit of background, my wife and I are currently living in North East London. My job is quite flexible and I only need to be in the office (central London) 2 days a week. My wife’s job is moving to Atherstone. We ideally don’t want either of us to commute more than 1 hour 15 mins door to door each way. As my wife will be doing the commute everyday vs my twice a week, my preference is to find somewhere with a shorter commute for her. Budget of up to £650k for the house.

We’re going to start trying to have a baby in the next couple of years so we want somewhere with good schools, safe and a nice place to grow up.

Having had a look, I can currently only see Rugby and Northampton as being realistic options for us but Northampton doesn’t seem that nice from previous posts here.

Does anyone know anywhere that we may have overlooked?

Thanks!

Rugby isn't that great either tbh. Lovely villages surrounding, but I'm not keen on the town itself. (ALthough i have some friends who love living there: might be worth a visit)

It'll stretch your commute slightly (by 10 mins into Marylebone i think), but Kenilworth might be a good option? Good schools, and a much nicer place to live than Rugby or Northhampton. Check the HS2 route also, it's going close so could improve your commute further in a few years.

Also, maybe Leamington Spa?

I haven’t lived there for some years - but I suggest you look in the surrounding villages- Kilsby Crick Weedon Southam West Haddon Long Buckby just a few that spring to mind
