What insurances do you have and why?

Getting a lot of pressure from my broker he is just relentless.

What insurances do you hold as a homeowner?

Close to exchange and I am being pressured significantly on various insurances.

I have elected for:
Building ins (condition of mortgage) and contents obv

Decreasing term mortgage cover insurance (paid off in event of death) written into trust (I just need to work out how to do that part)

I have:
Critical illness already (will pay out a cash value of a large percentage of my annual salary on diagnosis)

personal injury and basic medical (ie if I needed a kidney out I get paid X amount so can choose to go private or nhs and bank the money) type policy.

Anything else to help this FTB???

It depends on your circumstances, ie how much sick pay do you get with your job..

Brokers will pressure you to spend a fortune on insurance and clearly some is necessary , others not.

I have house contents and buildings plus life insurance. I would search for each one to verify you are getting the best price alongside the best policy so check what is covered. Ie on buildings and contents include accidental damage.

Check if you get death in service cover with your work pension. Most do to the tune of 4x salary, which would clear the mortgage for you partner / kids.

I go with:
Building and contents only (and no accidental cover because kids make it expensive).

I have death in service through work pension and travel insurance through a bank account.

I'm considering dental cover, and also worry a bit about critical illness. However I think that my partner can look after me if I'm ill (and vice versa).

Buildings and contents here. Life insurance. Considering critical illness cover.

Buildings and contents.

Life insurance through work.

That's it.

Getting a lot of pressure from my broker he is just relentless.

This tells you everything you need to know. He doesn't care about your insurance, he just wants his commission. Go elsewhere.

Building, contents and water/sewer pipe cover (we live on a private street so we're liable for a long section of pipework).

Life insurance with critical illness cover

Health insurance & private dental plan

you need something to cover the mortgage if you die/can't work, or you'll be homeless.

obviously buildings and contents, with accidental damage. Home emergency can be handy too and should be low cost.

life cover if you have any dependents. basically - consider what happens if you die tomorrow or can't work, and make sure that all the financial holes from that are filled.

I have buildings and contents plus critical illness. Our policy covers us for 2 claims plus a couple of claims for each child which is reassuring as of course if someone were to become ill we’d have to take time off work etc. Touch wood we don’t need to use that ever.

When we move our policy won’t quite cover the new mortgage in the event of one of us dying so I’ll possibly look into upping the cover, but it’ll be tight as our bills are rising anyway.

AGreatUsername · 11/02/2020 16:21

Oh and I have emergency cover and accidental damage on my home insurance too.

needmorecoffeeandcake · 12/02/2020 18:52

We have decreasing mortgage cover plus critical illness. Pension includes a decent death in service lump sum.
