Silestone worktop joint

We are getting a Systemo worktop installed & we need a join for the length of run - the attached photo is what has been supplied - laid on not finished off. I understand it's a natural material & I'm not expecting pattern matching or anything but this looks like they've actuually chosen the worst possible piece to join.
The factory have said that's just how it is but I've asked the supplier to query further.
Comments?

Not the best place to have it but all depends on the length of the run and unit layout under. Joins should be above a unit edge for support
Have you a picture of the whole run??

Did the designer / fitter discuss join locations with you when they came to template the worktop? That's fairly standard practice isn't it?

Fairly sure Silestone comes in 3m lengths. Why the need for a join?

Simonutti72 · 07/02/2020 14:44

Run is >3m so join was necessary - designer wanted it further over in line with widow but join was changed to where worktop manufacturers advised. It's more the variation in colour that I have the issue with - It's their template, they know it's a join & they've not given any thought as to the end markings.

What colour is it? The majority of Silestone come in 3m lengths, some 4m. You absolutely should not have a join there, and it should not look like that. That’s the worst job I’ve ever seen. I’m also 99% sure Silestone would not recommend a joint there. The run should probably start at the other end so the sink gets the longest part. We’ve supplied Silestone for years now and they are VERY choosey about who they let supply their products. A local company has been binned by them as they cut the sink holes incorrectly. Have you spoken to Silestone directly?

Worktop is from Systemo a German company - we're using Next 125 for the kitchen & that's their worktop supplier. Ive attached the plan that Systemo gave with their preferred joins - not what we'd initially decided with our designer but you kind of think that if that's what they do they'd know best...(obv not)

Another thought, the minimum distance between a cutout and join is set by Silestone as 150mm. It doesn’t look far off but do check it. Honestly, not only would our fabricator do his upmost to avoid a join in the centre of the run (they should be over by the turn of the L, or certainly away from a cutout in a straight run to avoid drawing the eye) but they would never expect a customer to be happy with that pattern mismatch. Most colours have blander patches which are the idea place to join. This just smacks of lazy, poor fitting. I’d be so cross if I were you OP. I hope you get somewhere.

I can’t read the numbers on there but it looks like 2 reasonably equally sized sheets. Not the best plan when you factor in a sink cutout and a strong pattern. I’d kick up a fuss personally and refuse to pay 🤷🏻‍♀️

Simonutti72 · 07/02/2020 16:05

just had a check & it's not silestone which may cause confusion - but Systemo Quartz

Thanks all - fuss currently being kicked up!

To be honest my comments would be the same regardless of manufacturer. You have paid (or agreed to pay) good money for that and it shouldn’t look like that. Good luck!

you should be also concerned that the sink was not in place before the top was put on.
standard practise to have the sink in place before the template, sink being fitted and secured etc
