Condensation. PLEASE HELP!!

I live in a 2 bed flat with my son. This place has shitty single glazed windows with wooden frames. There is mould EVERYWHERE, on the window sill, frame, walls! and some slimy gunk that forms at the bottom of the window. Ive scrubbed it off with bleach, painted it with anti mould paint, I try to clean condensation off regularly, the place is not very air tight at ALL so plenty of ventilation as there is about half an inch gap under the front door, the windows are constantly blowing in cold air (I live in Scotland and its FREEZING right now) my sons window actually had icicles on it the other day from frozen condensation and there are gaps to under the floor all under the skirting board in the kitchen (which are too high). The heating is electric and I can't afford to have the heating on all the time and its on about 2 hrs a day and then as soon as its off the place is freezing again..
I keep reading about how condensation is the tenant responsibility but I am at a loss of what else I can do. I keep the kitchen window open, reluctantly when I cook, and I have the shitty windows open in the bathroom anytime we take a shower but mould still accumulates on the ceiling. There is no extractor fan in there.
I can't afford a dehumidifier. Ive tried those moisture box things and they get some but barely put a dent on the condensation so I gave up with those.
I am at my wits end, I hate calling the landlady because she is so rude and the last time I reported a problem (after I moved in) when the floor board in the bathroom beside the bath started to crumble like weetabix under my feet, she had the absolute nerve to say 'I never had this problem with the last tenants, did you overflow the bath?' my son and I couldn't even take baths at the time because the water pressure on the hot water was so low it came out in little dribbles.. She ended up replacing the boiler because thats what the problem was.
Anyway, I am just at my wits end, this place is a stinking mess and I don't know what to do about it.

@woodencoffeetable I was never shown one. When I came to view the flat ( it was a gumtree ad) I met the previous tenants, two students. They never showed me it. Then the landlord came to my old flat to meet me and sign the lease (which was for a year, but when I talked about renewing it she said it will just be month to month now. Not sure?) Anyhow, she never showed me an EPC rating nor is there one available in the flat.

@mencken thats exactly what I have been doing. I have put in a few applications and have one right now on my desk for another! I have the environmental health coming up Tuesday afternoon.

@TobyHouseMan Yeah I have seen a few suggestions for that and I might just go out and get some.. But I just don't know where else the water will go, but its definitely worth a shot!

@Booberella9 the only thing keeping me here is finding another suitable place to live. I have kind of lost trust in private landlords, so I don't want to go down that route again. I also can't afford private rent for a 2 bedroom house, as much as I would want to! I am a full-time (overtime really as I am on two full time courses, one with the open uni) student, and housing associations in my city have a good reputation and often have better or as good as housing in the private sector! Plus, once I start working it would be better for me to have somewhere that is affordable and manageable. Deposit is not so much of a problem, I mean it is as I am also paying for driving lessons at the moment, but it would still be hard in the longer term.

@SciFiScream I have spent a small fortune on this place, even repairing things myself which would come under landlords responsibility but I really don't like talking to her or requesting anything from her as she's made a huge deal out of something totally not my fault before (as if id tamper with plumbing under the bathtub for fun!? lol)

@WifOfBif Ive never heard of such a thing! I will have a look but I am hoping to be out of here soon! At the latest by the end of the year..

What do you guys think about the deposit? I have been a bit worried about it. Reason being is that as I've explained this place is a bit of a nightmare. I had permission to paint and things, and told her when I was painting over mould etc. But I remember requesting her to change the carpets in the hallway. I told her I would pay £90 towards it, but she declined. These carpets were stinking of mould, and just stank! They had been through two tenants, the first (who I believe actually put them in in the first place) had two daughters and a baby boy, and the last ones were two students. So you can imagine, after me being here for I think was a year and a half by then, they needed replacing.. They were initially installed before 2013, I know this because thats when I discovered the radiators were installed and the carpets had holes in them where the last ones were. So anyway. Ive ripped out two carpets. One flooring I made do with floor paint, which actually looks nice. and the hallway I hadnt got round to doing as it needs sanded first. But since she was not willing to keep it updated, had I still had the carpets they would be at the very least 7 years old now, and passed through 3 tenants with multiple occupancy. Anyway, I am pretty certain the first tenant I speak of installed them, so would it be reasonable to still expect my deposit back? Especially since the mould is pretty bad, it was like that to start with and hasn't gotten any worse, but I am pretty certain there was no house check before the previous tenants moved out as their move out date was the same as my move in date, and I ended up needing to fill in some dents in the wall which I assume was from them moving their stuff out as I can't recall them being there when I viewed the flat, either that or it was hidden behind the previous tenants things as most stains on the carpet were!!

The deposit is held with safe deposit Scotland..

Yeah I think the windows film is worth a shot.

I wouldn't worry too much about where the water would go. The window film would act as a barrier and insulator so the air wouldn't get to the cold window and hit the dew point. You may get a little still on the film, but when I did it it really reduced it. Just make sure you leave an air gap between the glass and the film.
