Toilet tank not filling up

Replaced the fill valve and no joy. I check the incoming pipe and no blockages, water comes through fine. When I connect it up it just won't fill. I tried changing the level thinking it might not at the right one but still nothing. Why won't it fill up? Any ideas....

Its not the flush mechanism eiher, nor the flapper.

post some photos please.

Was this same fault present before you changed the fill valve?

Does water flow through the fill valve?

Does water ever stop flowing through the fill valve?

So here are the pics. I replaced the fill valve that's in the pic.

The white pipe is water one, when its disconnected and I turn it on it comes through fine. As soon as I connect it back to the new fill valve, nothing.

I've tried differing the height of the fill valve, nothing either.

It was working fine on the weekend, never had issues with it, filled up fine. Somewhere on Sunday something happened because come Monday morning it wouldn't fill up all of a sudden.

please clarify

Up until Sunday it was working fine and Monday morning I used the toilet went to flush and only a part flush came through. Lifted the lid and saw that t it wasn't filling up so yes it happened before I changed the fill valve. There was no water coming through the fill valve to refill the tank.

I then assumed the fill valve was clogged so got a new one and changed it over and same thing no water coming through to fill the tank.

If I disconnect the water pipe from the valve there is water coming through the water pipe. When I connect it back up the water doesnt flow through to fill the tank.

Hope that answers ur questions

how forcefully does the water gush from the pipe when you remove the fill valve? If you put your thumb over the end of the pipe, can you stop the flow? How does this compare to other taps in the house?

Can you see a sediment filter in the pipe or the valve? Usually a rubber or plastic washer where the middle is steel or nylon mesh.

Are you in a house or a flat?

Is this WC on an upper floor?

Is water flow better in other parts of the building?

Have you got a cold water tank in the loft, or above a hot-water cylinder?

cyclingmad · 04/02/2020 20:43

In a house, cold water tank in loft and cylinder in cupboard in bathroom which is upstairs so I suppose the cold water tank would be direcrly above hot water cylinder if you removed the ceiling. Water flow elsewhere is perfectly fine.

Out of the pipe if I out my thumb over it's fairly forceful. Can't stop it completely with my thumb. Water pressure from pipe is same as it is from taps elsewhere.

Cant see a sediment filter

Don't know what it is. Does the float go up and down? When it is down the valve should be open, and when the float rises it should press on the lever that closes the valve.

No idea since it's not working. Think I'll call someone out as I'm lost as to why this isnt working. Thanks for your help!
