Does anyone know what this could be? Pics

Hi we moved in a few months ago and upon inspecting the garden today trying to work out what we'd like to do with it we've come across this what looks like a drain cover. The second pic shows what's inside, I'm worried it's a cess put or something similar but there was no mention of this in the deeds or paperwork for house sale?

Is it a device for putting dog poo into to keep the garden clean, you add a chemical to it to enable the poo to break down to compost or something like that?

ThisIsBigMoon · 01/02/2020 16:21

Definitely a dog poo composter thingy.

Thats a drain, judging by the amount of debris in there it needs cleaning out.

dudsville · 01/02/2020 16:36

Yuk, what a terrible thing to find!

Ok so not a dog pooh bin, Dyno rod are out and clearing it as it is a drain 😖 house bloody sticks now as both drains for house were blocked, looks like neighbours are flushing baby wipes 😳

Blocked drain. You need to get it cleared.

kyriesmum1 · 25/02/2020 16:46

Was cleared this morning. Dyno rod found baby wipes and pegs in the drain! The disadvantage at being the end of the run is that I have to put up with the results of flushing stuff that shouldn't be flushed!

If it's a common drain used by several homes, United Utilities are responsible and should clear it out without charge. You shouldn't need to pay Dynorod to do it.

BruceAndNosh · 25/02/2020 22:23

You need to speak to your neighbours and educate them only three things should go down a loo. Pee poo and paper.
Invite them round to your house to experience the stink caused by their blockage

noodledoodler · 25/02/2020 22:41

Hubby says report to united utilities, it may well be their responsibility and there could be a wider problem, the blockage could be outside your property and you are copping for it, especially being on the end of the line. Are you definitely on a mainline sewer? (Hubby is a bit of a septic tank expert)

CadburySpira · 26/02/2020 08:29

Show your neighbours that picture, that should put them off flushing wipes, eeww!

kyriesmum1 · 26/02/2020 12:10

I have a monthly British Gas plan which covers my drains so luckily it didn't cost anything to have them out. I've knocked the neighbours and told them but have said if it happens again then I would expect them to put towards the cost.
