Can I lay fitted carpet over a tiled floor?

Considering buying a new house that has a totally tiled floor downstairs with underfloor heating. It’s a bit cold having tiles in a lounge. Does anyone know if it’s possible to lay carpet over the top. Be a nightmare pulling the tiles up and might risk perforating the underfloor heating...? Any advice appreciated thanks!

You can, but. Make sure you work with your carpet supplier and fitters to choose a carpet and underlay that is thin enough to let the heat through! Carpet and underlay is normally very insulating, it's rather part of the point of it, but there are weaves specifically made for UFH.

Pulling the tiles up would indeed be a bad plan.

We did this. Looked fine - I was worried the grout lines might show but not at all. Saved a massive hassle in getting the tiles up.

(Although we didn’t have UFH - so as pp said, just make sure the fitter knows.

carpet fitter suggested skimming our floor if we put carpet down - it will add a little bit more to the cost but not that much
