Moving to Worcestershire - help please!

Hi all,

We are considering moving to Worcestershire this year to be closer to family, but we are really struggling with areas to look at. Family are pretty spread out across Worcestershire so there's no one particular area for us to look at.

In a perfect world we would like a small town/village, commutable to Birmingham by train, good schools. We need 3 beds with a garage and off street parking, budget is 210k. Would like to avoid Worcester city and Kidderminster area.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

I live in Pershore, and there are a couple of houses in your budget currently. The train here doesn't go to Birmingham, but the new Worcestershire Parkway station which is opening soon will, and its 5 miles away.

Your budget may limit you somewhat, location wise, but redditch is worth a look
alvechurch ticks some of your boxes, but doubt you’d get what you’re looking for, for your budget
Halesowen? It doesn’t have a station and is technically west mids (I think) but there are towns nearby with stations. Areas on the edge of the Black Country may be more affordable, but again aren’t worcs
I quite like Stourbridge, but think it’s quite expensive?

Have you seen this one?

Malvern is lovely and good transport links.
Have you thought about Worcester itself? Its a small city so does have a small town feeling. It's 50 minutes in the train to Birmingham from Forgate Street Station. There are some lovely areas - St John's, Fernhill Heath, Barbourne, Northwick, Claines, St Peters, Kempsey (bit further out but a lovely little village).

I used to live on the Bath Road and it's lovely round there!

Twooter's link is in the middle of a huge new development, miles away from the train station.

Lots of places fit your criteria OP (not helpful, I know!). The desirable ones tend to be on the expensive side.
I second the idea of thinking about Halesowen / Stourbridge.
Redditch is not generally popular - a new town with not very good schools although it has lots of employers based there.
Watch for flood risk from the Severn, Avon, etc.

Sorry I have just read you wanted to avoid Worcester itself.

I live in Droitwich, close to Worcester, close to both jct 5 and 6 of the M5 and there's a train station here. A 3 bed would be more like 250 though and that would be semi detached. Redditch has nice areas like webheath and is much cheaper, and is close to the M42.

slipperywhensparticus · 28/01/2020 11:39

I second droitwich decent area decent schools good transport links

Dasbouncemachine · 28/01/2020 11:40

Forgot to say Droitwich has some excellent schools in the area

I would have a look at Droitwich too. Villages will be expensive and lacking in train stations, but you could consider Fernhill Heath if you don’t mind driving or bus to station?

Alternatively Whittington or Norton for the new Worcester Parkway station but I am not sure on house prices there.
