Does anyone know how to fix a rattling door?

The front door of my flat rattles whenever anyone walks down the hallway and opens the fire door which is right near our flat door.

It doesn't have a tab on the strike plate that I can adjust, anyone have any ideas of how I can fix the rattle?

it will be quite difficult to adjust without weakening it. I'm not sure the lock is the same brand as the keep or staple, so they may be a poor fit. The best solution would be to identify the make of the keep and fit a new lock of the same model. It is most likely to be a Yale or an ERA. You may need to measure it precisely, take several photos, and look at nightlatches in a DIY shed, or ask at a local locksmiths. I think the latch itself is a Union, probably a 1158. Look carefully for any maker's name or part number on either part. The cylinder and key may be yet another make. This does not matter. Do you own or rent?

Are all the screws tight?

Is the lock tight on the door?

Look for some plastic foam strip draught-excluder, which you can use in the rebate of the frame, so the door presses against it when closed, taking up the slack.

Here are some popular nightlatches. British Standard nightlatches are stronger and more secure, and more expensive. If you rent, the owner may dislike you making alterations. You will need to keep a spare key somewhere in case you get locked out e.g. when putting the bins out.

The ones marked "traditional" are poor quality and insecure

I have used an IKEA clear plastic sticky thing on an internal bedroom door before to solve this issue! Draught excluder would be better for an external door though.

Door bumper things are like this:

Some bits of well placed blue tac might be a temporary solution, but otherwise foam draught excluder (as mentioned) or maybe a bottom brush draught excluder which might hold the door more firmly in place?

Just put a draft stick on excluder on the rebate of the frame this will push the door further out into the lock keeper and stop it rattling and keep drafts out . or set the keeper deeper into the frame a little bit more .

Don't move the keep "a bit"
That would mean the new screw holes are close to the old screw holes, and therefore weaker.

I see your keep has three visible fixing screws, so is pretty sure to be an ERA.

Sometimes Wickes sells them as an own brand.

Most likely any of these at £34.99 upwards would fit, but if interested, look at my earlier questions as I may have further suggestions and measurements that will make it easier. I think yours is 60mm backset.

I think I see an intumescent strip on your doorframe, so you presumably have a fire door.

Ah I thought I had replied to this but it never posted! I rent so was hesitant to mess around with it too much, but I did have some foam strips that I had tried earlier to stop draughts coming in but had put it on the side of the door frame so it didn't do anything. Tried it on the rebate instead and no more rattling!

It was a bit stiff to lock so I did have to trim it down so it wasn't so thick but it's fixed the problem, thanks!
