Fees from changing mortgage from one lender another

Planning ahead. 2 year fixed mortgage with natwest, when this deal ends if I can't get a similar rate I will be shopping around (fills me with dread thinking about all the faffing). I've asked my mortgage advisor but hasn't answered directly so from experience, can anyone tell me what fees you had to pay from changing from one lender to another and was it a massive faff? I've heard about getting solicitors etc is this the case and do you have to pay again for this expense even though you paid 1000+ 2 years previously when buying the house? Anyone know if changing from one natwest deal to another are there any fees you have to pay? Thanks

We moved from nationwide to Santander. There were fees of a couple of hundred. You don't have to get a solicitor in the same way as you do when you're buying a house (you don't need all the searches etc). I can't quite remember the details but Santander arranged all the solicitor stuff and we didn't have to pay anything.

Over the 25 years I've had my mortgage, and we've never needed solicitors to switch.
I used to switch every time a deal came to an end (obviously unless current provider was the new 'best deal'). Generally, the fees for switching were FAR outweighed by the saving you make in getting the better deal over the next two years (or however long the deal is for).

Only at the end, when there was little left to pay, did it become not worth switching, in terms of the fees wouldn't be more than balanced out by the savings.

Thanks for replies so far, that's good to know. Anyone else got experience of moving with same lender?
