Cost to replace K1 (single) radiators with K2 radiators (double)?

If you've replaced a single convector radiator with a double, could you let me know how much it cost - preferably split into labour and parts! Oh, and roughly where you are in the country too! :)

I have two radiators I'd like to replace - 1600 by 600 and 1400 by 600. The first one is a straight swap (ie same size) but the second would be going from 1300 to 1400.

I've been quote £650 for labour, the two radiators, valves and some pipe. Bog standard radiators - nothing fancy. It was a bit more than I was expecting as I thought (according to link below) that the radiators would be a couple of hundred in total (according to mrcentralheating), plus valves and pipe so another £450 on top of the radiators seems like a lot - but maybe it's not? It's the only quote I've got so far. I am in north east by the way.

TIA

Given that we paid £3500 to have a full CH installed from scratch including boiler, re routing gas pipe, 7 radiators installed and all new pipework.. er yeah the guy you called doesn't want the job Grin

just replaced our daughters radiator. Dh ordered it from the internet, and fitted it himself!

AceOfShades · 21/01/2020 23:01

DH has done some like for like himself, and our plumber has done some which were smaller in length than the original single radiator. He charged £90 for two I think but was here already doing some other work.

They were very large radiators too, no idea if that makes a difference Grin

Do the radiator pipes come up through the floor?

Is it a wooden floor, or concrete?

Mintjulia · 22/01/2020 03:06

If you are only replacing the rads and not moving pipes etc, it shouldn’t take more than a morning.
I’d expect to pay £250ish for radiators plus valves, plus half a day’s work, Maybe £400 all in.
We’re in Hampshire.

I was thinking more around the £400 mark...

Will check location of pipes when I get home PigletJohn. :)

We paid about £450 for two doubles and two singles . Pipes in same place..a few hours work.

Look on screwfix website for radiator cost inhibitor valves . labour to drain down and refill probably 1/2 day at £200 at most + part

I would be concerned about whether the existing pipes could supply enough heat for those radiators, they are huge. What are you heating, a hall?

johnd2 · 22/01/2020 22:08

Get 3 quotes, it could be there's something inconvenient about the job or it could be they don't want to do it. The price sounds plausible enough. Another option is to offer to get the parts and pay the labour at an hourly rate, then it all adds up for you and any risks or call backs for issues you just pay at the same rate.
Not many customers want to take the risk on when it's the trades person doing the job, usually that's something that happens on sites where there is a high level of supervision.

One radiator has pipes going into floor (wooden floorboards). I would be replacing a 600 by 1600 single with the same size double.

The other radiator has pipes going into the skirting board. I would be replacing a 600 by 1300 single with a 600 by 1400 double. This is the one where the guy said there would be a bit of pipework needed to accommodate the slightly longer size.

Yes, the radiators are big. The BTU on them is needed to heat the rooms they are in. The man who quoted didn't say that the pipes would be inadequate and I think he would have done if there was a problem as he confirmed that the boiler would be able to accommodate them.
