Kitchen wooden floor experiences

Hi all, we renovating our 1930s house and creating a kitchen diner. Would like engineered wood flooring with electric under floor heating down in the hall and into the kitchen diner at the back of the house. The floor I love the most in terms of colour and plank size is lacqured, which I understand is best for kitchens. However, this particular style also feels a bit slippy. Has anyone got an engineered wood lacquered floor in the kitchen (or anywhere for that matter) - dont want to be sliding around, especially in the kitchen with the obvious hazards involved! Tend to talk around either bare foot or in socks - am aware I could wear rubber soled slippers if was a problem but would like to hear some people's experiences. Thanks!

No advice, but following :-)

If you have a washing machine leak it'll get wrecked - and those buggers do like to spring leaks.

luckily the washine machine is a utility room, which is on a different level with tiled flooring. The only appliance in the kitchen will be the dishwasher (which admittedly could also pose a leak risk). I think engineered wood floors are generally ok for kitchens, its the slip factor that concerns me. Some samples are absolutely fine, but the one I like the most doesn't feel quite a rough as those ones and a tad more slippy.

Had the same battle. We now have V4 herringbone e hindered wood and I love it. I really do not like kardean etc looks too fake'

We have a hardwearing finish on ours.

Yes we are also getting lacquered and hadn't realised the slip risk.
On another note electric under floor heating is very expensive to run unless you have excellent insulation below and all through the room. Unless it's a supplementary heating just to take the chill off the floor.

@johnd2 Yes the UFH is for the option of having "ambient" heat - we will still have radiators in the room and also a gas stove/fire. Would have loved wet UFH and no radiators but the thousands of pounds of installation costs are beyond our budget.

Gave lots of thought whether to bother with the electric but thought would be nice first thing in the morning and also when people are over/special occasions etc. If bills jump up too much will just use it less is my thinking!

The person selling the floor doesn't believe the lacquered floor we like will be slippy - I'm just not convinced. They did look at me with tilted heads when I stood on their sample board in my socks and tried to slide around on it Grin.

Just to follow up - the lacquered engineered wood floor is down and lovely - not slippy at all!
