There’s your answer, OP. Pop over to Sacramento.

A good quality cushioned vinyl, sealed round the edges so that the inevitable splashes don’t leak underneath. There should be a mass of choice at any flooring retailer.

Personally I’d never have ceramic tiles - far too hard and unforgiving, esp.with small children, and if you drop anything at all heavy on them they’re likely to crack - speaking from experience here.

Vinyl is about £20 per square metre. Warm, little bit cushioned, resistant to water. Various effects including tile-look. That is what we used. Pop into your local carpet shop and have a look. I have a grey tile effect, but can't tell you which brand - I just chose it in the shop.

I have a vinyl in my bathroom that's tiled effect. To look at you wouldn't know they're not tiles but I didn't want cold flooring and I wasn't putting underfloor heating in. It works really well and isn't slippy at all. I got it from carpet right and it was £103 for a fairly big bathroom!

kids aren't that fragile and the pattern really doesn't matter - but don't get something with loads of indentations because it will be a cleaning nightmare.

go as cheap as possible until they are past the scribbling stage. For a bathroom a remnant should do it.

agree with everyone else a medium thickness vinyl admittedly ours is a small bathroom but it cost under £50 to floor it from carpet right, and tiles as well as being cold and slippery in a wet room would have been four times the cost if you have flooring down that you can take up use that as a template makes going round the sink and toilet a lot easier

Thanks all ! Sadly the msg from Sacramento has gone, else I'd have popped over on a plane :)

If your toddlers are anything like mine, you'll need something that's watertight, and easy to bloody clean! We got vinyl tiles from lifestyleflooringuk.co.uk and to be honest, they're holding up pretty damn well!

Think ours were around £80 for our small family bathroom.

Another vote for Marmoleum.
