Kitchen conservatory

We are in the process of buying a house and whilst we want to extend we can’t afford the increased mortgage payments to borrow the additional money at this time.

We do, however, have about £20k for renovations and I’m wondering if it would be possible to add a kitchen conservatory on the back of the house out of this budget.

Has anyone had one done? Would you recommend it?

I have my kitchen in an oak orangery. It was £65,000 just for the building. With your budget it’s a non starter. It’s just not enough for a robust warm building.

Cheap PVC conservatories aren’t properly insulated so you still need an external door between a conservatory and the main house. To do it properly, as above, you need more of an orangery/garden room structure and that costs £££.

I wouldn't think a cheap conservatory would make the best kitchen, they tend to not really hold the heat that well. We have a conservatory coming off our kitchen and adjacent to the bathroom. I'm assuming the previous owner intended it to be a dining room, but realistically it's too cold to comfortably use this time of year and gets stiflingly hot in the summer. During winter we have to run a dehumidifier overnight every night due to condensation from the kitchen and bathroom. I quite like having it as an occassional room, but wouldn't like having to try to make it work as an everyday room such as a kitchen.
