Hi all,

My kitchen and dining room are currently separated by a wall and i'd like to knock the wall down to have a big kitchen diner. The wall also has a door leading out to an extension at the back of my house. I want to keep the extension separate to the kitchen diner so I want to retain the wall between the extension and kitchen diner. The wall appears to be hollow when I knock on one side of it however, there what looks like a pillar attached to the wall which I don't know whether is load bearing or not. I'm also struggling to visualise what it the space will look like when the wall is gone. So really at this point I'm looking for two things:

  1. Someone to tell me if the wall is load bearing in places or not.
  2. Someone to draw me some pictures of what the space will look like.

I'm really confused as to whether I need an interior designer, builder or architect or more than one of these. I've attached a photo of the floor plan below so hopefully it's clearer than I have described. Also, can anyone advise if I want a new kitchen supplied and fitted as well as the wall taken down which tradespeople will I need? Thanks in advance!

I would say a general builder.

Structural surveyor and general builder.

If there is a wall directly above it then its structural

if you want to see it all in CAD before you start building/ wrecking why not use a concept planner like OnePlan on houzz ?

We recently widened an internal doorway in a supporting wall. Had a structural engineer look and do drawings so the builder could order the correct size steel joists. Our builder had a surveyor he recommended.

Sorry just realised I referred to structural engineer and surveyor. Same person!
