Radiator loud whirring noise

Hoping for some of the famous @PigletJohn advice if possible, or any knowledge at all please as mine is zero!

Our bedroom radiator has started making a very loud whirring/buzzing noise when on. It started 3 days ago. When it started, if I turned the TRV either up or down the noise stopped. Now turning it makes no real difference, perhaps a little quieter if I turn it down. Sat downstairs it sounds like the house is vibrating!

Forgot to say the second I turn the heating off that also stops the noise.

The TRV has been fitted on the wrong end of the radiator. The result is that when the valve is almost, but not quite, closed, the flow of water through the narrow gap makes it vibrate.

Look at the valve on the other end of the radiator. It is probably a Lockshield valve, provided for adjustment. You may need a screwdriver to remove the plastic cap that hides the spindle. Take this cap off. Using your smallest adjustable wrench (the 100mm long one) screw down the spindle fully to close the valve. Then open it half a turn. Wait 30 minutes. Is the radiator hot? If not open the valve another quarter turn and wait another 15 minutes. Repeat if necessary.

This opens the valve just enough for water to flow slowly through the radiator, without travelling at such force that it makes the TRV vibrate.

If the valve is old, and starts to leak when you turn it, quickly screw it all the way open, or all the way closed, and it will probably stop leaking. Put a flat cake tin under it to catch any drips and ask around for personal recommendations of a wrinkly local plumber. You do not need a gasman to change a radiator valve.

An easier short term fix with no leaky valves, remove the trv head. The radiator will be on but it won't vibrate.

Many thanks to both of you. Last night I removed the TRV head for instant peace. Will tackle your suggestions next PigletJohn, many thanks for the clear instructions.
