Hi all. Just looking for a bit of advise.

I'm a single mom and me and my daughter are about to move out of my moms property. I was wondering if anyone knows to any financial help I can get with appliances? We are moving into a private property but due to my daughter being so young I am on benefits which means I will get LHA towards rent. Any knowledge will be appreciated!😊

Look on Facebook selling sites in your area for bargain appliances and don't be too fussy. Be very careful re credit and only get essentials. Don't buy a combined washer/dryer as they're rubbish.

Most councils have long scrapped these grants. I think you’re just going to need to check gumtree and Facebook for cheap ones

ComtesseDeSpair · 15/01/2020 17:22

Search for grant-making charities and foundations in your area which provide grants for essential appliances to people on low incomes.

Otherwise, organisations like Emmaus, the Salvation Army and British Heart Foundation run shops specifically selling second hand household goods. Unlike buying from sellers on eBay or Gumtree, they service them first and usually provide some kind of guarantee so that if if breaks down within a week of you getting if hone you have some come-back.

Though first, and it may seem obvious, but have you actually checked with the landlord / estate agent that no appliances are included? It’s been a long time since I rented but when I did even unfurnished rentals generally included basic kitchen appliances like fridge-freezer, washing machine and cooker, even if they weren’t integrated.

Most rentals have basic appliances. There may be a charity recycling used goods locally, with a discount for those on benefits. We donated items like fridge/freezer and chairs in the past, all of which have to meet safety standards.

landlords provide fewer appliances now as what you provide, you fix. That said most places should have an oven and hob as these are wired in.

fridge, freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer - try on your local FB groups, ebay and call the local reuse charities. With even new appliances under £150, second hand stuff goes for not much.

There are local charities round here that do this sort of thing but I second the others, check with landlord what is provided as cooler and fridge is common. take LO on weekly walk to launderette?

As Jellybean85 said yes charities do help with white goods. I think turn to us give Grant's but I think a social worker has to support application. Good luck I've been there myself things will be better.

@Littleelffriend my daughter is 2 weeks old. You never know somebody's circumstances, nor do you know if people are disabled or cannot work due to physical/mental barriers that cannot be overcome. I asked for advise-not a bashing so please do not judge when you are oblivious to others' situations.

To everyone else-thank you so much!! I will look into everything that's been said. I appreciate all the advise!
