snash1039 · 15/01/2020 13:55

I am in the process of purchasing from DIY-Kitchens.com but I need help in gettting measurements correct.
I have a plan from Wrens but there appears to be some contradictory comments. Anyone who can help with this.
Thanks

I don't think anyone can help with the measurements other than you - you need to ensure you know the exact size of the space the kitchen will take up. The DIY kitchens online planner is actually pretty good though, and their support team are excellent. DIY can't do measurements so you will have to measure yourself, or perhaps pay a local kitchen designer to measure

Go get yourself a three or five meter (As needed) steel tape measure, and get measurin'. You might need a second person if the walls are long. Do it all in millimetres.

East London based anyone can help. Can measure but don't want to make a expensive mistake.

Well you either have to measure it or pay a designer to come and do it. I’m not sure what anyone here can do.

Nobody on MN is going to take the liability for an expensive mistake either - a designer will because that’s a paid for service. You can get basic kitchen design services for about £250

we have used the independent designer mentioned on the DIY reviews ie she was used by lots of other poeple too . Was called Karen and we found her via Houzz shes trades under name of OnePlan. really good and very knowledgeable

NotMeNoNo · 16/01/2020 20:55

I would suggest an independent designer too. For the cost of probably one cupboard you can be sure to have a kitchen that's safe, works well and looks nice. It's gutting to have a new expensive kitchen badly laid out so it's inconvenient to use.

We used Karen at OnePlan too, after reading about her on here. She is brilliant and thanks to her I have my dream kitchen.

itsUnderMyPillow · 18/01/2020 12:00

Do you have a fitter?

I self-designed and found that DIY Kitchens were v helpful with the bits I struggled with. The online planner is v good. Beware of corner cupboards where you need to allow for corner pieces in your measurements.

My fitter then looked at the plan and told me what he did and didn't want from it, plus some extra bits of carcase material and that was that.

If your fitter is used to DIY Kitchens they may well be able to just adjust your order for you.
