Dishwasher broken

After being without our washing machine for a month (thanks indecit) and our microwave breaking our dishwasher has decided to break. All while I have a 6 month old to look after and on mat leave so low ok cash. It's not heating up. Has anyone had this issue repaired so I can get an idea of cost or should we just go and get a new (cheap) one?

Just wash up? We've recently moved back to UK and haven't yet got round to getting a dishwasher. We're coping OK!

Not heating up might be that the heating element has failed, though it could be an electronic control.

How old is it?

You can buy a new one for around £400, but if you are strong and have a hatchback, you can get a used one for £25 or less from somebody refitting their kitchen.

I did exactly as @PigletJohn suggests and it lasted me 5 years! I’d have been happy if it had done us 6 months!

Ours packed up found one on Ebay a kitchen fitter who sells the appliances he removed, it was about £40. If you are a competent DIY person its an easy fix if not don't attempt it

I accidently spent my dishwasher money on a puppy 🙄so I got one someone was selling for 20 on Facebook. It was still going strong years later. Def worth a look. I now have a dog and a dishwasher 🤣

@scaryteacher life is difficult enough at the moment with a 6months old, husband in a demanding job and having to cart all my washing to my mums so I kind of feel having a dishwasher is more than just a luxury. I am just washing up in the interim but it's just one more thing which may be the last straw...

Thanks all for the options. dH is fairly handy but not sure if he can do it himself. I just wondered if anyone had had a professional in to fix them, as have found a similar one for £200 and so didn't want to end up paying close to that with no 100% guarantee of it being fixable! I think we may just bite the bullet..

@xine15 I miss mine, but it's amaxing that dh and ds can both wash up - who knew?

I've just moved back from abroad, and the hole for the dishwasher has been full of booze boxes for some time. I have to work out where the booze lives before I can have a dishwasher...

My washing machine broke last summer. AEG sent spotty youths who were technicians as opposed to engineers, and they still didn't fix the problem (all this had to be done in French/Flemish). Eventually they sent an older, very grumpy man, who fixed it, as he knew what he was doing, and the problem wasn't what they had charged me the best part of €200 for. That took 3 bloody months of mopping up the cellar every time I had to turn dh's shirts round in a rush. Luckily, I had a lovely friend who would let me use her machine, and then I'd drive it all home again to dry it.
