Has anyone tried this in their home?
We’ve just had the surveyor out, seems expensive but is it worth it?

what is the problem you want to solve?

Cassimin · 14/01/2020 16:06

It’s a condensation build up in a house that we let out.
Have told them to open windows, not dry clothes on radiators, bought them a dehumidifier.
Just want to be able to sort it out and not have to ask them to do anything.

I am having one fitted next week for exactly the same reasons. Fingers crossed it works!!

Cassimin · 15/01/2020 17:32

I’ve been quoted £1200.
Don’t know wether to try airbricks first.

We had a quote from envirovent. We bought this instead as I wasn't convinced. Dh cut a hole in the ceiling and it is plugged in, in the loft.

I was absolutely astonished that the condensation disappeared overnight. I have hardly used my inhaler and heating bills have gone down since. Still going strong after many years.

Ours has a remote control so I just turn it down in summer.

Cassimin · 15/01/2020 18:30

Do you need a plug in the loft for that?
Was it easy to fit?

OP posts:
SlowSigh · 15/01/2020 19:59

Yes, socket is in the loft. Super easy to fit.

Saucery · 15/01/2020 20:03

We were advised to try new air bricks first, then look at a system such as envirovent.

ThePug · 15/01/2020 21:44

Air bricks are incredibly unlikely to make a significant difference. Positive input ventilation systems like the envirovent one are very effective. Look at Nuaire Drimasters too as they tend to be cheaper but do the same thing (just less flashy lights/buttons etc)

minipie · 15/01/2020 22:27

Agree look at the Nuare Drimaster range. Cost about £200-400 depending on which model. You’ll need a power socket in the loft and a grille installed in your top landing ceiling. They seem to be quite commonly used by landlords.

CatsCatsCats11 · 15/01/2020 22:30

We had them in best thing we ever did. Yes expensive but it was costing us so much In mould removal and replacing mouldy things it's paid for itself.

Methodical1 · 16/01/2020 20:51

I’ve just installed this in a flat that had a problem with a tenant drying clothes over radiators: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B006TGBY6I?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&tag=mumsnetforu03-21
Runs continually and is quiet enough. Time will tell but it’s a much cheaper option to try.

Cassimin · 16/01/2020 22:19

Is this like a fan?
Does it fit in the wall like an extractor fan?

OP posts:
Methodical1 · 16/01/2020 23:53

Yes it just runs constantly. Some of the other solutions sound good but are more expensive and my flat didn’t have a loft for the pipe work.

Cassimin · 17/01/2020 07:31

Lots of great options here for me to look into. Thanks everyone!
One last question, is it an electrician that I need to fit ?

OP posts:
Methodical1 · 17/01/2020 23:14

Yes I'd recommended an electrician particularly if it’s a rental property.

Subaccount · 03/08/2025 19:06

I know this post is bit old but is any using envirovent PIV ?

Cassimin · 04/08/2025 09:36

saw your message!
as it was a rental we got a builder in, he drilled holes in the wall to make it like an air brick and covered with a plastic grill so it looked ok. Didn’t cause as much mess as making hole in wall to fit an air brick, also a much cheaper option.
We have a different tenant now and they haven’t complained so 🤞it’s all ok.
