Plastering costs

Hi, we want to plaster our chimney breast which is currently brick. It's about 4m X 3m and will need plaster boarding to seal it, plus any trimmings to neaten etc. I've had one quote, and usually get 3 but don't really have time, but wouldn't mind knowing whether the cost quoted is about right please. Quote was £500.

So if you've had a room plastered, or similar, or any idea of plastering costs please can you share? Just thought this might be a simple way to find out. Thanks if so.

We had two rooms boarded and plastered. £700 and £850.
one included the ceiling boarded and plastered.
The other only skimmed the ceiling as it was sound.
There was some cutting of the boards as there were sloping areas over the window.
Both were large rooms already taken back to brick ( messiest job ever)
I would say if the area is square and straight forward that seems expensive.

Thank you, that's really useful. I'm going to get at least one more quote in that case.

We've just had a bedroom skimmed, it was £350. We also had our hall, landing and stairs skimmed last year which was £700.

For reference we're in the East Midlands Smile

We had our chimney breast plastered just before Christmas, paid £120 for it. But it was a relatively simple job.

£500 is a lot, we had 6 large rooms, 2 small rooms, stairs & landing done inc all ceilings (walls not boarded but ceilings were - £3300

I would get another quote.

We have just had quotes to board and plaster a double bedroom and our stairway (both currently have really old fashioned plaster and no boards), which includes a fireplace. One quote was around £2k, and the other around £900. We are SE commuter area and both quotes were form local companies.

Thanks so much everyone. I think it's definitely a high quote. I think they're good worksmen (highly recommended) but that is very high price in comparison to the work you specify. That photo is exactly the same as our chimney breast so don't see how it could cost extra £350. I'll give some other companies a ring tomorrow.
