If you were looking for a new house what would your top few wish list things be? Realistic ones for a mid-income family! Wink

Period property with large garden. Really in need of a utility room and some sort of cloakroom as we own way too many bloody coats and shoes! Also on our wish list is a room that we can turn into a library.

Our main requirement is that it's detached and away from neighbours as ours currently make our lives hell and I can't wait to not hear constant banging, slamming and screaming through the walls.

We've found something similar to what we want but it's really overpriced yet needs pretty much a full renovation. Haven't bothered putting in an offer as it doesn't seem she's willing to budge on price.

Just in the process of buying in the end the non-negotiable points where

View
Off road parking
Kitchen with room for dining table.
Neighbours
More than one toilet - though not sure the 4 we now will have is really needed.

It was amazing how our non negotiable changed and things we thought we’d want when we started and the things we really wanted where different. - location was the main one dropped.

We have rented for a year near where we thought we wanted to be but really the final list of must haves wasn’t possible in the area we’d like to live within in our budget. Biggest one was view bizarrely.

Overlooked was up there as well.

South facing garden and off street parking, decent area
Aside from that detached, flexible open plan space downstairs (or can be adapted to) and downstairs loo

RIBlue · 12/01/2020 08:31

Off street parking
Decent sized, dog proofable garden
Utility room
Space for a dining table

My house is bloody lovely.

I wish it had a hallway.

I love our current house for the size, practicality, and the location (which were my two most important criteria), and I also love it has a granny flat. However, in a world of sunshine and unicorns, it would be:

  • detached
  • no more than 2 levels (ours is a townhouse style with 4 floors, which I think is too many)
  • garden all on one level (ours has two levels)
  • double garage instead of single
  • most of the bedrooms upstairs, living areas would be on ground floor
  • a light-filled study/library
  • period features (esp fireplace)
  • updated energy efficiency, possibly solar panels

Similar to many on here. For a mid-price house, I’d also like a utility room/cupboard. A quiet, leafy road where houses are beautifully maintained/presented.
