If you have money to throw away and want to pay someone to NOT sell your house...... then PURPLE BRICKS is the one for you. We thought that as all the Estate Agents put the adverts on Rightmove and we assumed most people looking to buy look on Rightmove then there wouldn’t be much to choose between them. How wrong we were. We were told when they first came to value that if they didn’t sell it there was no fee. Our cottage was up for sale with them for months and we DID NOT HAVE A SINGLE VIEWING...........NOT ONE !! So we decided to try another agent. We moved to Bridgefords. Within a week we had several viewings and an offer. After about 6 weeks in the offer fell through due the fact that the purchasers got a job offer out of the area and it was too far for them to commute. Within another couple of weeks more viewings and another offer which is nearly at completion. This swiftness by Bridgefords not only means that we have sold our cottage but the bungalow we had previously been buying was still available for us. Now PURPLE BRICKS are demanding nearly £1000 for NOT SELLING our cottage. We have tried to compromise with them but they are blinded by sheer greed.

This is their standard conditions I’m afraid... cheap if you sell, wasted money if you don’t.

StateOfMind · 08/01/2020 21:59

Surely you read their terms and conditions before you signed up?

ChicCroissant · 08/01/2020 22:01

Oh come on OP, you knew that you had to pay PB whether they sold it or not - that's why they are cheap.

foamrolling · 08/01/2020 22:01

That is standard for all Estate agents unfortunately. I remember having that debate with my husband when a previous house wasn't selling - whether to change estate agents but you're tied in to the first one if it sells within a certain time frame.

It's a shitter though.

Pipandmum · 08/01/2020 22:02

I hate purple bricks. The agents showing you around know absolutely nothing about the property they just unlock the door. The offer is supposed to be done online but if the seller doesn't respond you still have to call someone but they may not know the seller so it doesn't help. I would not look at a property being sold through them.

Elllicam · 08/01/2020 22:02

Our house was under offer in under a week with Purplebricks.

PB is an advertising agency so you pay if they sell or not, it is in their terms and conditions and on their website, it makes no difference to them if they sell or not as they have your money.

Lots of traditional agents offer no sell no fee and you only pay once the property sale is completing.

Loopyloopy1 · 08/01/2020 22:07

Yep - we had two offers in a week via purple bricks. They don’t do anything to get viewings for you except the Rightmove listing. But that’s fine, that’s why it’s so cheap!

(Btw, I took my own photos, wrote my own listing, and did the viewings myself. Saved tens of thousands of pounds. I’m delighted!)

Loopyloopy1 · 08/01/2020 22:11

Ok I slightly exaggerate with tens of thousands! But I saved a hell of a lot.

I think if you’re going to go with someone like purplebricks, you have to be confident you’ve got a property that is easy to sell.

Bonnylassie · 08/01/2020 22:23

You have lots of options with Purple bricks. We paid extra for them to do the viewings as we were at work, but they took all the photos and wrote the listing for the £1000. When you sign up it's pretty clear you owe them the money regardless, you either pay up front or defer. We had a dedicated estate agent who came out and meet us, valued the house and he clearly knew his stuff.

Purple bricks sold our house within the week and our buyers also used them and sold their house within 2 weeks. I have recommended them to my in laws and would use them again.

Sold twice with purplebricks and brought one from them too. Maybe I had a good estate agent but I found them easy to deal with and good value for money.

They easily inflate house prices by at least £50,000 and reduce them to still too high to buy levels many months afterwards.
