Hi everyone,

I am getting a new kitchen+flooring and your advice on the price would be very much appreciated!

It is 8 units very basic kitchen (L shape) and we are getting a new flooring for the room (4x5m).

We bought the kitchen units from Wickes (SE London).

Electric and plumbing job will be done by someone else so it is to 1. lay engineering wood flooring/do beading 2.assemble and install.

His quote is £1500. It was our friend who used him for a rear extension and my friend said that this guy was quite good and reasonably priced in general so I am considering to give him the job without getting any other quotes.

What do you think? I don't know much kitchen fitting cost so I'd better to get some opinions before I go ahead...

£1500 fitting price for a basic 8 unit kitchen? Too much.

@misspiggy19 Really? Hmmm even with a flooring? It was a good thing that I posted a question then

Not outrageous I would expect more like 1000. It's probably 4 days work for carpenter at 200 a day and labourer at 100 a day. Looks like he has given himself 5 days to do it

your in london
the price is fine, many would want more for that in your area

London kitchen fitter £250 per day .... (if not £300). Wickes kitchens are all flat packed so whilst x8 units doesn't sound a lot, all got to be built from scratch. If any are drawer units they take approx 2hrs per unit to unpack, and build. He'll spend a good half a day jut working out where each bit of the jigsaw goes. The trouble with Wickes is the kitchens "seem" cheap, but what you save on them being flatpacked, you shell out for on extra fitting costs. I'd say as the wife (and invoice/ quote lady) for a kitchen fitter / carpenter that the quote is fair. Don't forget you're also paying for his travel, parking, insurance, tools etc as a proportion on the cost. I expect there's 10% factored in there too for unforeseen issues.

You will ALWAYS find someone to do it cheaper at quote stage .... but finding someone you know is good at their job from recommendation of a friend is priceless.... The cheaper quotes always seem to find a way to rack up the bill by the end of the job. Just saying Grin

Thank you for all the replies!

@Shouldbeworkingnotreadingtalk, good point! I have used a random builder to fix my roof last year and it was a nightmare... His quote was cheap in the beginning but then the actual price became more than double when he finished the job, and on top of it he did a horrendous job so I had to get someone else to fix it again in the end. I was really close to report him/his company. That said, maybe it is worth getting someone with a good reference because at least I will have a piece in my mind.

@Diseno, Alexalee. it is not the cheapest but like you said, given the fact that I live in London maybe it is a fair price.

I will take the quote I just need to get this done quick because I am sick of readymade soup and sandwiches. Thank you for your opinion on this:)

I work in a handmade kitchen company. We charge £3000 for a dry fit as standard. For one as small as that, maybe £2400. However our kitchens are all fitted and scribed to walls by the cabinet makers who make them so are perfect every time. I think you’re paying the correct price for a standard builder fit.

Just had our kitchen fitted, similar location to you. Given that it includes doing the flooring I’d say it sounds pretty reasonable.

Considering that's the price including the flooring, it's a pretty good deal. Last autumn we also had our kitchen redesigned. In total we paid approximatelly £5000 (including VAT) for three bespoke wooden kitchen units, solid hardwood worktop, sink, taps, extractor and installation, but since all the work was completed by Murdoch Troon, the price was much lower than the usual market price and importantly looks fantastic.

Considering the average cost of kitchen fitting is £5,000-£6,000, no, that is a great price but ask around.
An example one many sites is here which is about what I would expect so I would be wanting to ask more questions. www.priceyourjob.co.uk/kitchen-suite-installation-cost/
I take it that £1500 is an estimate. Check further as that is a low price and covers the flooring. Quite like the quote myself.
