I went to see a house recently, owned by a vet I think. In various places in the house were tanks of turtles, lizards and other reptiles. Also birds. Downstairs smelt a bit funky, then upstairs it was really strong, I think from the many heat lamps and animals. I couldn't stay up there for long it made me feel quite nauseous. Obviously the estate agent is telling me it will go once the house is aired etc. Has anyone experience of this, is it going to be that easy or will that funky smell linger?

I'm not sure, but it will definitely take more than an 'airing'. My house was just an ordinary people occupied place (ie not a vet) but had a very strong musty smell. Even getting rid of the carpets didnt help. It was only when I'd taken off the wall paper and repainted that the smell went (room by room) or at least wasn't as noticeable.

Get yourself an ozone generator, you can get one that plugs in, between 25-40 quid. I got mine on amazon. One of the cheaper ones. I could see that the ones in the price range I’ve given were the same thing just different “makes” so went with the cheapest. I use it in a holiday let to clear cooking smells and in my house if I’ve had smokers round. There’s a fascinating video on YouTube of a Scottish bloke taking a big ozone generator apart and explaining the science - hotels regularly use them apparently. I’d take a chance on being able to clear that smell, even if it takes a few days.

Thanks and never heard of an ozone generator that's a new one!
