Laundry Room in Shed

Potentially buying a house with room for one plumbed appliance in kitchen so would like this to be a dishwasher.

This shed is out the back, I'd like to remodel it to house a laundry room, fuel storage, bike storage, maybe some indoor drying. There's also a steel shed so there are options there too.

I'd love to see others ideas for inspiration please, thanks in advance

Looks like a massive shed , does it have power and drainage ? Looks a good project to take on , looks single skin brick so storage it's all you could use it for.

TheFaerieQueene · 05/01/2020 12:44

Is there plumbing? If not it could be v expensive to connect to mains and waste.

Happierwithouthim · 05/01/2020 13:17

I'm not sure yet about drainage but shed has power, viewing this coming week.

Current house has washing machine & dryer in shed, not sure I could get used to them being inside the house now & kitchen is not huge.

Other option is make kitchen smaller & make utility or transform toilet into laundry room inside the house?

WC is 0.99x2.97

I was going to say I couldn’t be bothered going outside every time I put a wash on but if you’re doing that already then I guess ok.
Any option to extend the kitchen or add a utility room?

FinallyHere · 05/01/2020 13:56

The ideal place for the washing machine is actually in the bathroom. Do any of the bathrooms have space or scope to extend?

Spartonian · 05/01/2020 14:04

That would be my room, a second living room, just for me, with carpet, sofa, all my craft stuff, work space, computer. The ideas for myself would be endless.

Happierwithouthim · 05/01/2020 14:16

Single mother, already going to be putting a bedroom in the attic so I think an extension wouldn't be an option for me financially

Spartonian the shed outdoors?

Following as we’re buying a house that currently has a galley kitchen leading into the conservatory across the back of the house.

There’s then a patio and a large brick outhouse about 1.5m away from conservatory used for storage. It has electricity but I’ve no idea about plumbing! We’d love to use it for laundry and as a pantry while we save up for an extension to actually join everything together and upgrade the conservatory.

Any idea how we find out about pipes underneath?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 05/01/2020 14:30

Our kitchen is TINY and in the space where there was plumbing we instead put a slimline dishwasher and very narrow cupboard as a washing machine only just fit (at an angle in the corner) and this setup helps keep the kitchen itself more tidy and practical.

Our washing machine and drier are in the utility area of our garage, which is single skin breezeblock with a wooden cladding.

It is fine as only a few steps from the back door. But in the depths of winter, the water supply can freeze and we have to switch the supply off to prevent frozen pipes, which leaves us hand washing clothes, or trying to predict cold snaps and clear any laundry before and after. February can be...interesting. I have occasionally taken laundry round to my parents on such occasions.

I'd imagine unless you can see a tap there's not any plumbing.
I know there's an outside tap on back wall of this house & septic tank is behind the shed so should be possible to link into both

WHy not convert the loo to a small washing room? Stack the washer/dryer

And use one of these between the washer and dryer?

@trickyex love your username btw

I think it only dawned on me as an option when pick & queen mentioned plumbing really. And I think that wc is kind of pointless as it's right beside the shower room

Could put in cupboards for bedding & towels there too & hooks for coats & storage for shoes

I would do that, it is better use of space. There are great wall drying racks which you can fold in which could work too.
You can buy shallow washing machines too, so in theory you could put the machines side by side on one wall but it would be tight to access, but this would give you worktop space.
Will try to find a pic

and wall rack

and for the back of the door?

Already have the machines & they're stacked where they are with homemade system, suited to a shed not to a laundry room. I like the idea of sink beside it for soaking bits & with room in the house should be no need for laundry baskets in other rooms just one to take out to clothesline.

Saw a nice idea of baskets for each family member so that they can return clothes to their rooms themselves.

Stacking will make window redundant

OP posts:
trickyex · 05/01/2020 16:36

If you need the light from the window then have them side by side but it might mean you need new shallower machines.

Happierwithouthim · 05/01/2020 22:01

I'm sure some light will come through around them & I'll price slimmer machines though too
