Why is my gas usage so high?

I have a brand new Worcester combi boiler

There are 3 of us in 2 bed small end of terrace house

Doors and windows upgraded to double glazing

We work during the week so heating only on for an hour in the mornings and when we get home in evening and over weekend

We have electric appliances so gas is only used for heating and hot water

2 people have a shower once a day and approximately 3 or 4 baths a week.

Energy suppliers suggest a gas kWh usage per year of 1300kwh

We used 16356 in the past year

Is there a door to the conservatory or is it very open plan? We used to have a conservatory off of our kitchen where patio doors between had been taken out - we might as well have just left all the doors and windows of the house open for the amount of heat we lost through the conservatory.

@shellieellie - no doors, it’s all been knocked through
We are probably losing loads of heat out there

Thanks very much! I have had making curtains and/or blinds for the house on my to do list but it’s been pushed way down. I might start by making blinds first and then do the curtains later. I might do them all before next winter and see the comparison.

The difference between 13000 and 16000 is next to nothing in the scheme of predictions. I think your usage is alright, could be better as with anyone's. But nothing to panic about.

Further thought on this - have you confirmed they're "actual" readings or "estimated"? If it's estimated they may (conveniently) be overestimating. Our supplier did and got my email address wrong too, so I blindly paid the direct debit and they never came to read the meter. Ended up getting over £800 refunded!

Lots of good ideas here though, especially from @PigletJohn.

I'm very glad we kept the french doors to our conservatory though! We have a small electric heater in there that we use when we want to use it but otherwise the door is shut as it's COLD in there!
