Hello, would love to recreate something like this for dc's Lego mini figures. I've ordered the brick tape from amazon but wondering what to use for mini shelves - the picture shelves I've seen online (like Ikeas) are all much wider than in this picture.
Thanks for having a look!

Hi. I think those might be the old picture rails ikea did. I wanted some too but now they only do the deeper version.
I'm not sure where else would do them that narrow. Hope someone else is along soon with something more useful!

minniemoll · 01/01/2020 23:24

Could you not just use actual Lego bricks? I'm not an expert, but I assume you'd need two layers, offset, to build a solid "shelf".

milliefiori · 01/01/2020 23:26

A friend of mine used an old printer's storage tray like this attached to the wall. Each tiny cubbyhole had a lego figure in it. It looked fantastic.

HerRoyalNotness · 01/01/2020 23:28

You could just go to b&q and get some 2x1”s maybe? Or whatever dimension you need

VaguelySensible · 01/01/2020 23:28

What about printers trays? They are very shallow, and you can hang them on the walls as shelving units. Ds's minifigures, pebbles and other miniature bits are displayed on them.

Or you could buy 1x1 or 3/4 x 3/4 lengths of wood (can't remember what it's called) from B&Q, sand, paint, and attach to the wall with Command Tape.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 01/01/2020 23:30

These would work fine

Thank you all - didn't think I'd get any replies!
I like the cubbyhole thing but he really has so many minifigures...
I don't know how I would attach the Lego bricks to the wall minimoll? He's got an empty wall behind his door which would be perfect as it can't be used for anything else really. I'll have a look at some kitchen things actually that might be smaller.
@HerRoyalNotness I feel like there's a word missing in your suggestion, that is obviously clear for those "in the know"! Blush 2x1 what's? (Would I just ask for wood?)
I have put shelves up before so I'm guessing I could attach wood to a wall fingers crossed

Just long pieces of wood, that is 2inches thick by 1 inch wide (or a different size). You can just cut it to length, screw or to the fill, fill screw hole and paint/decorate.

Legocitymyarse · 01/01/2020 23:36

Sorry hadn't seen there were more posts! Brilliant ideas!
I love the idea of command tape, they'd be very light so could work well. I've just read some of the reviews of the brick tape on amazon and they are not great Sad so I should wait one extra day for it to come before I go out and buy a dozen bits of wood!

2x1s etc refer to measurements so it's basically just long batons of wood of a depth and width of your choice which you can get in B&Q. Either just screw directly into the wall or do a hidden attachment- put in the screw and make corresponding hole in baton then screw in. If you felt you needed one you could put a piece of moulding along the front to stop them falling off. Go to B&Q and ask a staff member to help, a lot will be able to guide you.

SpoonBlender · 01/01/2020 23:38

You can get lengths of 1" square wood from any Wickes or similar DIY/wood place. Cut them to your preferred shelf size, paint them, LEGO tape on, and screw them to the wall.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 01/01/2020 23:42

Type in nail varnish wall display into amazon. Loads of options.

ruralcat · 01/01/2020 23:52

I know someone who did this, 25x25mm wood strips screwed to the wall with the Lego base glued on.

mumoftwodc · 01/01/2020 23:55

We have these shelves from Ikea for our mini figures www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/lustigt-wall-shelf-30381852/

I would buy a length of corner moulding from B&Q - comes in 2.4m lengths and will give you a tiny shelf 20mm deep that you can paint to match the wall and possibly add a length of Lego tape to.

Legocitymyarse · 02/01/2020 00:06

Oh my goodness @mumoftwodc I'm speechless those photos are great! I love that there are little ladders to get the people up Grin
Predictably it's out of stock at my local Ikea - so either need to wait for them for a week or so or buy some wood/moulding/nail varnish displays! Lots of choices.
Hopefully some other parents trying to avoid the curse of stepping on Lego mini figures will find this thread useful Smile

We have the deeper IKEA picture ledges in a long run across one wall. The Lego base pieces are glued onto the front lip of the ledge and then we use the rest of the shelf for pictures etc as usual. Looks great.

HerRoyalNotness · 02/01/2020 00:14

Yes wood lengths sorry!!

You could also get some of the base plates and fix them to the wall. The little black plates the figures come on fit between the studs, so they could easily sit on that. I’ll try to find a pic

HerRoyalNotness · 02/01/2020 00:17

Like this. They just use the 2x1 brick here. And the other in the frame is the ribba frame from Ikea with a base plate in it. You could leave off the front glass. I have 2 on the wall for display and it looks really good

My dd has a load of funko pops, amiibos and anime figurines and there's some brilliant ideas on here for displaying them. We're decorating her room this month hopefully and I didn't think shelving could be so exciting.

mumoftwodc · 02/01/2020 01:16

Pleased I can help Smile There's some great ideas on here to fit different styles and preferences. The Ikea shelves came up on eBay when I was googling for the link so that may help you if you live a distance from the store. If you're anything like me you I spend a fortune at Ikea when I've only gone for a dinner set costing £20!
