Problem with fridge?

Wondered if someone could help with this. We have an iceking under counter larder fridge and it's started making an odd noise. Every so often, it makes a whirring/buzzing noise and then a loud click as though it's cutting out. The light is on so there is power to it and nothing has tripped. Can anyone advise as to what to do please?

Sounds like a fan is failing / has failed? Is it cooling OK or icing up?

If it's a buzzzz, CLICK! it could be a dodgy/dirty compressor overheating.

If it's been in situ a while and the airflow isn't great, the compressor coils at the back may have gotten grimed up, preventing the refrigerant running through the coils from dispensing heat effectively.

Turn it off, drag it out and give it a bit of a scrub (find a youtube video showing how best to clean the coils). Might give you a few years before you have to replace the appliance.

I’d say get rid. Ours went on fire, it was making a clicking noise then the fridge wasn’t working very well for a day or so, next thing I knew I heard sparking and then it VERY quickly went up in flames. If we weren’t in the room at the time the whole place would have been up in flames, according to the fire brigade. So I will never take any chances with fridges.

Especially thatsfinethen your reply made me shudder, it's just not worth the risk and I'm so glad it's switched off as the house is empty today!
