Where in west/south west London

Currently live in SE London but want to buy a bigger property and in West/SW London due to my family being there.

We have DC1 8mo and looking to TTC again next year.

Any suggestions appreciated!

  • budget max £950k (ideally less)
  • min 4 bedroom - ideally detached or semi detached with good sized garden
  • close to good state schools and/or independents for girls
  • fast commute to Waterloo (eg under 30 minutes train ride If possible)
  • good suburban feel - parks, cafes, mum groups for second pregnancy

Does this place exist?

@JoJoSM2 thank you for this. Do you know what Twickenham is like these days - I know it from when I was young and it wasn’t very nice/safe but I bet that’s changed

@CardinalSin thanks - neither of these properties came up when I searched surbiton!! I wonder why - but thanks. The semi looks great and I may arrange a visit

Lol can’t imagine Twickenham being rough. From memory, the residential areas I linked are definitely smart. The shopping area is similar to all the other ones - ok but not as fancy as Richmond.

The modern house is also very close to the Lensbury - fantastic family place if you can get a membership. Teddington has a cutesy high street, IMO the vibe is similar to Barnes.

School-wise, you should be able to get Waldegrave from either house, which is the most sought after non-faith girls’ comp in SW London. Orleans Park is co-ed and excellent. Turing House seems popular. If you’re likely to use state schools, you’ll get far better options around there or in New Malden. Surbiton is very average for non-faith schools.

Just to second what others have already suggested. The Hamptons is brilliant - such a fantastic community of families and a very nice local primary school. Easy train into Waterloo. Also South Wimbledon is great for links into Waterloo (train and tube), EXCELLENT primary and secondary schools and v v easy to see family in Richmond. I speak from experience. Look in the Ministers, Old Merton Park, around South Park Gardens, Generals (off Quicks Road). Also might be worth looking at Mortlake as I imagine prices have been depressed by the Hammersmith Bridge closure. Best of luck.
