Everhot. Why TF would anyone buy this range cooker?

We have just inherited a 100cm Everhot range cooker with our new house. I’m really not loving it. The main plate section takes 20 minutes to heat up, another 20 minutes to reheat boiling water and only fits 2 saucepans on it. The ‘simmer’ plate certainly doesn’t simmer anything even at max temp. And the oven also takes an age to heat up from the eco setting and costs a fortune to run at anything higher. How does any modern, busy family live with one of these? I’d hoped we’d get used to it, but I don’t think I’m going to last long with this.

To answer the original question, it’s cheaper than an Aga.

Does it not go on a timer?

Cupofteaandtoilet · 30/12/2019 22:01

I have a 110+ and I love it 🤷‍♀️ Mine is on all the time to heat the kitchen. It is a different way of cooking and does take a bit of getting used to but if you hate it - sell it and buy a conventional cooker.

It's an Everhot so it should be on ('ever hot') all the time. Like an Aga. You have to cook in a different way (so use the ovens more. They are big just for this purpose).

bilbodog · 30/12/2019 22:22

Go on a cooking course at the nearest showroom - i have an aga and you do need to cook in a slightly Different way. As these are heat storage cookers the idea is to cook as much as possible in the ovens and not on the top plates - that way not letting all the heat out if the top.

We bought a 110i last year and we love it. It is a different way of cooking. It is great for slow cooking we had lamb shanks tonight. You can bake fantastic quiches as it heats from the bottom up.

Go on the website. Go to a cookery demonstration. You get to sample the food. Yum! Go and ask people that sell them. If you are anywhere near Skipton the guy there is very knowledgeable. There is a Facebook page for them with hints and tips. We leave ours on and you need to remember to bump it up about 20 -30 mins before cooking. Our simmer plate works fine. Might be that you need it serviced. Do you have the cookbook? It has some explanation of how to use it. It has a fantastic recipe for Sticky Toffee Pudding.

shoebedobedobedobedoo · 30/12/2019 22:36

The first problem is we don’t have the ‘i’ model. I’ve taken to microwaving vegetables and pasta.
Apparently they don’t need servicing- I rang our local supplier to book a service and was told that they don’t need servicing.
I don’t think my life runs at the pace of slow cooking, sadly.

The grill is great for boosting the oven temperature. Not trying to get you to love it - just to learn how to live with it until you can get a replacement (normal) cooker.

puptent · 30/12/2019 23:32

But if it's on all the time it just works like a normal cooker? You don't have to wait for anything to heat up. The oven is always at the right temp. The hotplates are always hot. I've had mine for eight years and it's never had a service. It just sits there and is hot all the time and cooks stuff. Like a normal oven does.

Wrap veg in a foil pouch with a bit of water/lemon juice/butter and stick it in the oven?

Blue5238 · 31/12/2019 16:28

I think the idea is you leave it on full, not that you leave it on the eco setting. So that it is always ready to use.
If you hate it then stick it on ebay and spend the proceeds on something you like better though! They seem to sell fairly well 2nd hand

Limelemonfizz · 01/12/2024 21:12

Hi there everhot cookers ..am I the only person that can't get on with the slowness of it ...I've never had one before I don't cook or bake alot and I use my airfryer ...there's only me so I'm thinking is it a waste as I inherited it and go back to a conventional oven????

WhatTheKey · 01/12/2024 23:03

My nan has one after getting rid of her beloved Rayburn. She calls it Neverhot.

Limelemonfizz · 02/12/2024 18:41

Haha! What the key ...I'm glad I'm not the only one ....I'm going back to dual fuel at least its instant x

PebbleSky · 02/12/2024 19:12

I know this is an old post but maybe the OP and new poster don't realise you don't turn them off so there's never a wait for it to heat up.

Unless you want to cook in theiddle of the night and use eco mode? We have ours on an eco setting between 10pm and 6am when we won't need it.
