What type of toilet should I buy? *pic*

We are refurbishing our bathroom and will be replacing the toilet. The soil pipe runs horizontally inside the boxing behind the toilet. This will remain and will be tiled on etc,

I’ve looked at modern toilets but it looks like they won’t be deep enough and I don’t want a gap between the back of the cistern and the wall.

Can any plumbers send me links to the type of toilet I can replace this with? Preferably a modern design as the rest of the en-suite will be modern tiles and new vanity etc .

Thanks

What about bringing the boxing-in up to above cistern height? That makes for a more useful height ledge, and would allow you to conceal the cistern, and put in an (also concealed) frame for a suspended loo, which is both modern and easy to clean. You'd need to make sure it's possible to open up the boxing without wrecking the tiles (eg, make the top a removable plank of nice wood).
I'm not a plumber but have done this in several bathroom refurbs.

Have a look inside the boxing. Soil pipe is about 100mm diameter and the box may have been made huge just to fit the old pan.

If the soil pipe is plastic (highly probable) it can be cut and a new elbow fitted to suit whatever modern WC you desire.

The boxing is not a permanent part of the building. It can be removed.

Thanks both. The pipe is definitely a 100 / 110mm plastic soil pipe as it runs into the bathroom next door. I like the idea of raising the boxing but would prefer a floor mounted toilet as DH is a big bloke and I’d be afraid of it becoming unstable over time.

I think my plumber is planning on leaving the boxing in place as he told me he’d have to advise me what type of toilet I can buy to fit. He has a tendency to try and divert me towards buying from certain retailers (local ones that I suspect are friends) so I want to get my knowledge straight first as I’m finding I can make big savings by shopping around and especially online.

If you Google back to wall toilet lots come up and ones that go to the floor as well. I'd box it all in to make it much neater and give you a handy storage shelf.

I had exactly the same problem. Went to b and q, got catalogues
Most toilets would not accommodate my boxing. Many catalogues didn't give me measurements I needed (distance between back of cistern and start of toilet pedestal)
I'm attaching pic of loo - I went to a plumbers merchant and it was first loo I saw! Purely chance as obviously they can source literally 100's of loos but only about 5 on display.
It was expensive- about £400 but it was the main but that needed getting right
18cm difference between back of cistern and base of pan
It's a rimless ideal standard and modern

I think you've got hung up on the boxing.

the box is only applied after you've fitted the plumbing, and is arranged to suit it. If you are having the bathroom refitted there is no need to keep the old box.

You don't even have to box in the soil pipe at all if you don't want to.

Pull it off and see how much room you have.

I see no reason why you can't install any pan that takes your fancy.

Unless the plumber is paying you, he doesn't get to choose how your bathroom is done.

Try googling wall hung toilet then the cistern will be enclosed within the taller boxing in and form a useful shelf instead of the older low level box.
