Styling the outer door and inner porch door

Designing a pair of doors trying to balance style, kerb appeal and security.

Outer door is fully exterior. I'm thinking clear glass looks nicest here, perhaps a larger window opening. Maybe this will be a bolder colour.

Open that one and be greeted by the inner porch door, this one I'm thinking is where you'll go with security or obscured glass, perhaps smaller window openings. Happy to just stick with white - but then maybe the bolder colour, say red or navy, would look better here?

I am not sure whether to have them the same design or colour, or to differ them. What do you think?

Do you need two doors? I don’t find the little porches stuck onto the front of houses attractive. The style of door depends on the style of the property and the setting too.

If thinking about security I would want the outer door to be the most secure. Otherwise a burglar could quickly get through the less secure outer door and then be hidden in the porch while taking time to.get through the more secure inner door.

I agree with MissKitty. The outer door should be the most secure one. Also if it is mostly glass when you go away post will easily be visible through your outer door. A security risk.

Those were my immediate thoughts too.

It may sound strange but glass can often be more secure, not less. Double or triple glazing is often harder and noisier to break than upvc or wood. At least that's what previous door people have told me when I was looking for a front door.

Are you thinking about leaving the exterior door unlocked sometimes to allow for deliveries? If so then the internal one would need to be as secure as the external IMO.

I like the look of a double exterior one with a single interior but I guess it depends on how wide your door is.
