What length of screws for this?

I bought these ladder brackets for my new shed, but they have no fitting instructions: www.screwfix.com/p/smith-locke-ladder-storage-brackets-black-190mm-2-pack/

They hold up to 30kg, but my ladders are much lighter. I can lift them easily but haven't weighed them.

I'm assuming I need wood screws, but what length?

Depends what you're screwing into, if it's decent wood I'd use 50x4 screws they would be plenty.

Having said that your link gives my a 404 error so i don't know the item

I can't find that product either, but I'm going to guess that it's a wall-bracket for storing a ladder, something like this or this

The length of the screw you need depends on the thickness of what you're screwing into. You don't want the point coming out the other side and gashing you every time you walk past it.

If it's a wooden shed, you need to screw into the wooden framework (not the cladding material). In a cheap modern shed that might only be 30x30mm, so you could only use a 30mm screw (drill a pilot hole first or it will probably split)

If it has a thicker frame, you can use a longer screw, but always shorter than the thickness of the studs.

If it's a brick shed, use a 40mm brown plasplug and a 40mm screw.

If it's a sectional concrete building, come back because they are not very suitable for screwing into, and you may crack the panel.

If it's a metal shed you need a different approach.

btw measure the fixing holes in the brackets. They will probably be around 4mm to 6mm diameter. They may have bevelled edges for countersunk screws, or parallel holes that round-headed screws will fit better. Unless the shed is unusually dry I would use stainless screws. You can buy them in small numbers on ebay from someone like Kays with quick delivery.

Do you have a good set of screwdrivers and an electric drill?
